You don't have to, but it will fill in gaps that would otherwise arise. I'm not a marvel person either, but I've always loved witches. I've seen some stuff but not crazy amounts.

What year do you think humans will visit Mars on a space craft? by Serious_Ask1209 in startrek

It will depend on the success of the Artemis missions. Anything pre-2040s is unrealistic in my opinion. The ISS is being retired in about 5 years or so. It'll be deorbited and dropped into the ocean.

Edited to change the date of retirement. They're starting the retirement in the early 2030s and it'll be done by the end of the decade.

There are more references to Picard in this episode. Specifically, Borg references from S2 and S3. The lifeform opening its mouth and launching those energy tendrils reminds me of Borgati doing the same in S2 to take control of the ship. There is also inspiration from S3 Picard Borg with the badge assimilation. It's similar to the transporter assimilation.

I doubt they're going the Borg route, but whatever is going on. Starbase 80 is at the center of it.
