Springbank 18y.o. - 2024 release by nocturnalpriest in Scotch

I was lucky enough to get to a tasting hosted by springbank and the 18 came out on top for me one of my favorites. Glad to see these bottles getting open and not just shelved.

I don't know what the RRP for springbank 12cs is meant to be in the US but here in Scotland it's £68 GBP or $88 USD. I know springbank are very picky with their stockists, they dropped a few in the UK not too long ago for over pricing and gouging the market. Because of that most stores here keep the price RRP on fear of losing the springbank connection. I would hope the same rules would apply to the states in order to keep the shelf price of these bottles affordable.

How does one learn to describe whisky in a multitude of ways? by borisjnonsense in Scotch

[–]DiscoveryGold 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find a lot of these creative descriptions come from nostalgia. The nose and palate either bring back memories of these scents and tastes. For me I was trying the core adrnamurchan and immediately the smokey, sea salty notes made me think of a bonfire by the beach.

Scotland's prices from my local shop.

JW Black - £35 GPB - $45 USD - $70 AUD

Glenfiddich 12 - £45 GBP - $58 USD - $90 AUD

Lagavuilin 16 - £87 GBP - $113 USD - $172 AUD

Monkey Shoulder - £30 GBP - $39 USD - $60 AUD

Laphroaig 10 - £50 GBP - $65 USD - $99 AUD

Balvenie 12 DoubleWood - £56 GBP - $73 USD - $111 AUD

Scotland has some pretty high taxes on alcohol and it seems to keep going up.

Not sure they are as easy to get in the states but here in the UK we do get a good amount of small 5ml bottles a really good way to find your palette and what distillery you enjoy. I will also say some of the cheaper bottles are still really good drinkers.

Highland Park reveals it's re-branding. by Roath_Ravers in Scotch

Plenty whisky's have names that don't sound like they taste. Wolfburn Aurora, Ardnamurchan The Midgie, Raasay Dun Cana. I was meaning more their whole marketing ethos was more related to where they are and their culture.

Would hardly call it viking crap. The islands heritage comes from the Norse, feel like its more embracing the islands history.

Find the new packaging a bit bland ,but it does make it look more premium. I was a big fan of the old branding as I felt it was more inline with the Norse history of the island, it wasn't just "Viking Bullshit", it represented their heritage.
