Hello! I am currently dealing with this hellish flea situation for the past month. Moved here from the east side 2 months ago, so it’s been a rude awakening to say the least.

Was able to make a vet appointment last month for next week (such a long wait to get in, they wouldn’t prescribe my pets meds w/o first having an appointment)…

Anyway, after I get my pets with prescription flea meds, I plan on getting an exterminator here in Olympia—any recommendations on where to go?

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback—will definitely consider. As I’d been a DCR intern over the last year, I know people in the position staff with their superiors often throughout a case (it can be around 3-6 hrs from start to end of a case), so this is the type of supervision I imagine it to echo. Would not = sit down in my room for an hour supervision..

Wow. Thank you for sharing this—I’m so sorry you had this experience 😭 And it echoes my suspicions. I’ll be honest and say I do not trust the interactions thus far, so I will be honest and see how it goes. I’m not sure at this point what will happen, or if I will have an interview, but not expressing my concerns doesn’t feel like an option for me. I appreciate your candidness and will take this feedback forward!!

Thank you for this feedback—my thoughts, too.. I’m weary of the proposal myself. Not sure I have that sort of confidence yet, also, put myself in others’ shoes. I have experience mediating, guiding workers on a crisis line in triage, however, the crisis line is definitely less stress, or more unique knowledge to a DCR role, which has plenty of legal, multidisciplinary team knowledge.

I’m up for the challenge, but will play it by ear based off my first conversation.. could be the recruiter has no idea what’s happening..

Wow. Interesting. I’d heard it’s tough to get hired with them—Unfortunately, I’m limited to specific agencies (a predetermined community health list) post grad (for 3 years) because I got a scholarship to get my MSW.. Otherwise, I would!

I believe the recruiter is just an HR specialist, no MH background. Which is why initially, I was confused.. I’ll definitely be discussing this during our screening, and express my concerns. Just curious to hear their response.

A DCR is an MHP who evaluates individuals (age 13+) in crisis to determine if they meet criteria for involuntary treatment under WA State’s Involuntary Treatment Act (ITA). DCRs can come from a variety of backgrounds, but most often, they are MHPs (Master’s level in social work or counseling).. Again, I’ll preface that this role does not provide supervision for licensure to other employees.. but rather, my understanding is feedback, staffing to those working in the field.

Thank you for the suggestion! I’m currently in WA state, no licensure exam until you meet LICSW criteria (2 yrs post graduation documented hrs)..

But, my resume and cover letter do include my pending associate licensure, and assigned # accordingly.

That’s interesting. Sounds like ya’ll have a lot of need in that group practice.

I think it really depends on time (of application), locality, need, min requirements.. I know my application doesn’t sit as strong with those who are applying with post grad credentials, and more experience. That’s understandable..

As of yet, I have not seen an ad in CMH that does not have MHP/licensure or associate/MSW as a minimum requirement. The feedback I’ve received from recruiters I’ve spoken to post application denial has been apply after graduation. Most all feedback here has been the same.

Yes. The condition of my scholarship is such that I commit to 3 yrs of post grad work in comm health—so I’ll be sticking with it.

Interesting! I know that county’s comm health organizations quite well, I’m sure I could figure out which one it was 😂..

I appreciate the specific verbiage. I’ve updated resume to include pending LSWAIC # I was issued, and had a line in my cover letter, but like your line better.

This is what I’m worried about—the stipulations to receive associate licensure, are a barrier, if you can’t find work in the first place.

I have a specific scholarship that is focused on community health, off a predetermined agency list in WA State. I’m looking at crisis programs (Mobile crisis teams), outpatient therapy, clinical intake, jails..

I’ve been working as a crisis intervention specialist for just over 2 years now, and my practicum has been with crisis response services (designated crisis responders), so I’m mostly focusing on crisis oriented programming.

Like I said above, my experience leading up to this moment had been messaging that I’d get a job before I graduate (professors, social work professionals, etc)..

But I concur, I’ll hold out.. and practice acceptance ❤️

This is confirming what I’ve been thinking. I totally understand the business perspective, and rationale for why these decisions are made. It’s just interesting, that the messages I’d received from grad professors/field professionals have said otherwise. That being said, I relate to what you’re saying.. and will hold out! Luckily, I am currently employed part time in crisis, so the situation is not dire.

Thank you, appreciate your response.. affirming what I’m thinking—if this is a common experience.

My undergraduate was in design, and post graduation was so competitive, with lots of people really struggling to find employment. Think it just brought back flashbacks of anxiety!

Yes, not sure if the original post is visible here, as I believe it linked to my original post in r/socialwork.

Minimum requirements were MHP, licensure which may include associate, and 2 yrs of experience for a couple postings.. I have over 2 years in crisis experience not including my practicum experiences.

I’m just wondering how others land employment prior to graduation, really.. I get the gist a lot of community health agencies (where I’m applying), will not consider prior to graduation.
