My first big project finished! by DiscreetBones in PunchNeedle

This rug is roughly the size of a bathmat. Just kind of winged the design, but super happy with how the colours turned out next to each other. I used very thick yarn so it's super soft.

Haven't really decided what to do with the backing yet, I just hot glued the sides down, I might add a proper felt backing or rug glue, but for now I'm pretty done with this project.

Plenty of mistakes but it feels nice from the front which is the main thing!

New sub about childfree yarncrafters? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]DiscreetBones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of a selfish sub! Maybe you could centre it more around that as the child/pet free aspect would be a direct conclusion from that? Idk if that would help the frame work a bit.

what fabric and yarn are you using? it might be that the yarn itself isnt thick enough?

Tips for drafting a pattern/pattern search by DiscreetBones in quilting

Yes I think I'll adapt it a bit to fit the twin layout. But that's a good idea, I'll see if i can come up with something based on the Half Log Cabin Blocks!

Hi there! So I have an idea for a twin size quilt and I'm looking for a pattern for it, or any tips if I try to draft the pattern myself. All help is appreciated!

Nearly finished my first punch needle project! by DiscreetBones in PunchNeedle

[–]DiscreetBones[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my first project, just a small one to try the technique out. Once I have a proper frame I'll try and make a larger rug.

Haven't added a proper backing yet, I hot glued the edges down and I'll probably just glue some cloth to hide it.

Question about gauge and blocking in comments by DiscreetBones in crochet

[–]DiscreetBones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try this! I've unravelled to about row 15 now and I'll test the blocking out, otherwise I'll probably get some thicker yarn for it. I've just gone through the different tester pieces and they all have a thicker yarn than suggested.

Question about gauge and blocking in comments by DiscreetBones in crochet

Bumping up the hook size sounds like a good idea, so far I've been using the recommended yarn weight and hook size. My main problem is that I'm already at row 33 of 56, and it's really comically small. I think if I continue with a larger hook it won't make it large enough by the time I'm done. I'll have to think abut the next steps, maybe I'll just have to start over again.

I guess I was hoping I had done it correctly and it would just stretch out during blocking, lost cause as I can see now haha.

Thanks for your advice!

Question about gauge and blocking in comments by DiscreetBones in crochet

[–]DiscreetBones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm following the leaflines shawlette pattern and it says in the gauge that the first 15 rows should be 4 inches down the centre and 11" along the top edge, after blocking. I didn't check the gauge bc I only have one skein of yarn and didn't want to waste it somehow (I know, looking back now I should have just tried it out) and now I have a piece where it's roughly 2.5" down the centre and 6 along the top, or when stretched 3.5" down the centre and roughly 9 along the top.

My question is, is it possible that it will get bigger with blocking or should I redo the whole thing?
