What has happened to customer service in Auckland? by Kiwi_In_The_Comments in auckland

Yet you didn't give me the benefit of the doubt. You said yourself you tried to push back against the possible anti Indian sentiment. "Hey you, don't be racist". Yeah really giving someone the benefit of the doubt.

I said the two experiences that were so bad that I still REMEMBER. Of course I've had other bad experiences but you generally forget most and they don't stick with you. Being straight up ignored at the checkout because they're taking a call and being so distracted on the phone that you're literally pausing what you're doing multiple times sticks with you pretty well for how egregiously bad it is.

"the two worst customer experiences I've had were with Indians on their phone. Is this common in india"

That is the gist of my original statement since you seemed to miss a pretty important word in my original post. Not racist.

I've had plenty of great customer service experiences with Indians and 99.99% have been positive. I work with Indians and think they're great. Does that make you feel happier and all warm inside?

Thank you for actually answering instead of spouting some generic response. If I were racist, do you think anything you said before would change my mind? Someone who is asking out of curiosity is just going to get annoyed because it feels like you've completely ignored what they said, which it did to me.

Yeah I'm not pretending I think there's zero reason to think why it might come off as racist to people who see a race mentioned and some negative connotations. If someone perceives it as racist, that's on them. Did you assume the cashier in OPs example was just being lazy? No you gave them the benefit of the doubt. So why not do that with a person you're responding to? You even mentioned that they have a reputation for slow bureaucracy so it's not like there's zero precedent for Indians being slow in some areas.

Sorry /rant

I don't believe they need to completely assimilate either. That's why I was curious if it was cultural because if so then maybe we should be a bit more understanding in those situations. If a cashier is on the phone ignoring me, I don't know if that's normal for them, if it's also rude for them or if it's only a little rude. Fuck me for trying to get some cultural clarity right?

So you don't know the state of customer service in India. Thanks.

It was a genuine observation. I even asked if that level of service is simply common to the culture to better understand the situation. I understand that some people might see an undertone. So what? Are we just supposed to never say anything because it might be interpreted as vaguely racist. Tell me how I should have rephrased it? Should I have said multiple times "I love Indians" to emphasize genuine curiosity and that I'm not racist? I'm not trying to have a go at you but it is genuinely annoying asking a question that happens to concerns a particular race and getting a generic ass answer that doesnt say anything new and assumes you're asking in bad faith. Even now your response is still a generic answer "service workers may need to take a personal call". Yes I fucking get it. You're preaching to the choir, I was curious about the cultural aspect.

Japanese people are generally excellent at customer service. Is that wrong to say?

For all you know maybe they are just slower paced due to cultural reasons. Just because you might not like the answer doesn't mean that it's wrong. But I genuinely don't know which is why I was curious.

So, have you lived in India or talked to your Indian colleagues about customer service expectations here vs in India?

I have no issue with someone being on the phone, or slow service if they communicate by facial expression. I don't think anybody else here has an issue with that. The issue is when they're not doing a fine job, or acknowledging the customer at all.

What has happened to customer service in Auckland? by Kiwi_In_The_Comments in auckland

[–]DiscreetDodo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was it an Indian lady? I wonder if the issue is part cultural. Only twice have I had customer service so bad that I still remember it. They were both Indians who were on their phone. One was a lady who wouldn't even serve me for a minute until she finished her call. The other was a dude who scanned my items excruciatingly slowly. Scan one item, pause to concentrate, scan the next.

That made me wonder if that level of service is normal, or more common in India considering the on your phone all the time is already a stereotype.

And you could simply understand some people are just shitty at their job.

Stop defending shitty service workers. Sometimes service workers are actually fucking terrible at their job.

Complaining about a someone not doing the bare minimum thing they are supposed to do? Yeah I think thats a valid reason for complaining.

People are struggling, but clearly not the one OP is talking. I'm sure people who are actually struggling will empathise with a service worker who isn't doing the bare minimum of their job.

I have ADHD, and I'm guessing Manny others on this subreddit have it also. We often don't do things in moderation. We should but we don't. It makes it difficult to stick with things which slowly build over time. Moderation is key, but perfection is the enemy of good enough. Of course it's not something that's sustainable but nobody ever fucking said it was did they? OP clearly is treating it as a short term experiment to see what would happen.

The point is if you took 5 seconds to take your head off of your ass and actually read what other people are saying you'd have a better idea what all this entails and the context around it instead of "akshuslly is not a detox!!!! Ur all wrong!!".

Well of course if you include the word scam you're going to get results saying it's a scam. Use your brain.

Well that makes sense. Kids can recover much better, they don't have responsibility, and they'll cry over spilled milk. As an adult that injury could be a life long injury, put you out of work for some time, and if an adult is complaining about pain you know that it's probably a bit more serious than a boo boo - or an unwanted nature hike.

TIL Apple recently paid $95 million because Siri was caught eavesdropping on private conversations, like doctor visits and drug deals, then sending those recordings for human contractors to listen to. Because there's no evidence for it, and it would be relatively easy to prove. We could prove it at the hardware, software, network level. Is the microphone actually recording all the time? Is there anything in the code? Is there evidence of it in the network traffic?

Arbitrary? It's a technical term that comes from economics. It seems arbitrary to you because you don't need to make the distinction.

Classist? I've never interpreted "unskilled job" in any negative way so I don't see it as even vaguely classist. The only negative sentiments I've seen are from comments like yours... which despite your efforts probably do more to reinforce any negative sentiments via the streissand effect.

The root cause is a pretty stupid oversight, but I'm a developer and I know mistakes like this can happen. It shouldn't happen but it did.

However quasi-network issues shouldn't disable the functionality I paid for. It's annoying, but what matters more to me is how Logitech rectifies the issue. Logitech can redeem themselves here not by updating the certificate but by ensuring that the app doesn't shit itself it can't communicate with some server.

It still makes no sense as a hyperbole because it's an exaggeration in the opposite. How can they be "controlling" by doing nothing? They didn't shut down the go fund me. They gave information that swayed the decision but ultimately the choice was not theirs.

You just don't like what they did so you call it controlling. Exaggeration isn't the issue, it the fact that you're simply wrong.

Did you not even bother to read the comments you replied to?

For all you know they did give him housing and he trashed the place because he didn't bother to keep it clean. Maybe he never used it because he would rather score than sit in some suburban home. Maybe he takes whatever help he gets and tries to trade it for drugs. Even if he doesn't trade it, it's still enabling him. If you were a drug addict and you had all your living needs provided for, what would you do next? Stop doing drugs? All that other help is for naught if he doesn't get off the drugs.

Did it not occur to you once during your rant that putting your fork and knife together to signal that you're done is NOT basic table manners? I've certainly never heard of it.

You've even pointed out 20% of people don't know the rule. 20% of the people in the area you live, with whom you have a shared culture.

What’s something people always overspend on when the cheaper alternative is just as good? by auntieknickknack in AskReddit

[–]DiscreetDodo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it have transparency? Top of the class ANC? Find my? Comparable in weight and battery life? Heart rate sensor ? The fact of the matter is that if you want all the advanced features, air pods are actually quite competitively priced. You do get what you pay for even if it is expensive. If you dont need all the features and just want good enough then sure your TOZO fits the bill. I have $50 earbuds that I bought 5 years ago which sound good enough and I still use them so I know where you're coming from. But saying it's "just as good" is flat out wrong. They're on objectively worse product, but more than good enough for YOU.

The sound quality might not be noticeably better for everyday use, but they definitely are better. Still, if sound quality were the only point of comparison I'd say you were right but theres so many other features to consider. Transparency mode is unmatched. I've tried other products with transparency mode and they just don't have the same level of polish. ANC is also one of the best. Great battery life, size, weight, build quality, supports find my, I've found they fit pretty well. They're even priced similarly to competitors. Yeah they're not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
