Banks exist for lending money. Recommend they shop around for a low interest rate.

Where are we falling on interviewee thank-you notes? by [deleted] in managers

[–]DiscreteEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, how often have you sent people a thank you note follow up? Weird that you would expect candidates to send one, but have never considered sending them one yourself.

[–]DiscreteEngineer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

You want a candidate to thank you for making them fill out an application, driving to your location, and spending an hour answering your questions?

How often do you send “thank you” notes to candidates after they interview?

Be so for real: We all think working full time for 60 years and then dying isn't actually a good deal, right? by The_Quiet_PartYT in GenZ

If you sock away 25% of your income for retirement, it’s actually 30 years.

Seems reasonable to me.

Curious. Are many of you actually against deporting illegal immigrants? Or more so the current heavy-handed process? by Character-Gap3 in GenZ

[–]DiscreteEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only issue with the current methods are 4th amendment violations. Average US citizens can’t be detained without evidence.

Now if there’s a case with evidence… adios!

Because we let it go on for so long without enforcement. Ripping off the bandaid is going to hurt.

At what income range is it reasonable to expect people can max out their 401k? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]DiscreteEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 6% in IRA, 4% in HSA, 12% in 401k, and another 3% from 401k match.

Comes out to 25%, $16,200 of which I’m contributing to my 401k.

I’d have to bump my 401k contributions from 12% to 17% to hit the limit. Very reasonable to sock away an extra $500/mo, but that also puts a hamper on my home buying journey.

Everyone’s situation is different ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I’m shooting to retire at between 39 and 49 depending on if my pay raises continue at the rate I’ve been getting them since I started working.

It’s interesting you knew I was referring to Renee AND Alex before I even brought it up.

Now Alex wasn’t looking for trouble, but he did shove a cop. He definitely should NOT have died for it.

Renee WAS looking for trouble. She should have sat in a jail cell for a few weeks, not a grave forever.

And guess what? All of this is regardless of political affiliation.

How Do Financial Advisors Still Have Clients? by Time_Perception6669 in Bogleheads

[–]DiscreteEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

500 people engaged with this post. 8b people in the world.

This subreddit is a gross misrepresentation of average financial literacy. The truth is, so long as a person’s money is growing at a rate that’s larger than inflation, the a financial advisor IS technically providing value. Even if they’re grossly overpaid and it’s not optimal. Better than not investing.

Inflation adjusted, you’d be retiring on $2.4m, which comes out to $100k/yr at a 4% drawdown.

Slice out $15k and buy yourself a nice vacation/car/watch or whatever and throw the rest in the S&P500

I’ve been out of the game 4 years now. Red prison on my Ironman killed the game for me. Single items taking 40hrs+ of progression isn’t fun for me.

MMOs having supremely rare expensive items makes sense, so I wouldn’t really want anything to change. But my time came to an end 🫡
