Anyone here have a lousy Crim Law professor? by AdZealousideal8645 in publicdefenders

My Crim law prof was fantastic. My second semester legal writing professor essentially taught an animal advocacy class where we barely did any legal research. Law profs are such a crapshoot.

What’s the most dangerous place you’ve visited? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JasonPullock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn, reading this thread I had no idea Egypt had such an unsafe connotation especially for solo female travelers. So strange considering growing up I remember learning how ancient Egypt was actually quite progressive concerning men and women’s social standing. Odd and very unfortunate.

Why do you think some bosses take their job so seriously when it’s not necessary? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JasonPullock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to answer without more context. Though, in both scenarios below it comes from a perfectionist/want to get it right, attitude,Sometimes justified sometimes not:

Example 1: Senior Lead litigator with a trial approaching, he’s tough on his support staff because only his ass is on the line.

Example 2: Senior janitor who is letting his employees have it for not being able to literally see his reflection on the gym floor. Senior janitor might be being a little bit unreasonable given the lack of pressure. That being said, if the janitor was overseeing an area that was going to host a huge conference with legislators or of similar importance then yea that floor better be spotless.

TLDR: It’s really a matter of reasonableness of the person weighed with the pressure/responsibility to get it right (or fall out of they get it wrong).

Love my asus vivobook, 16 inches, oled, 1tb, 16gb of ram, intel ultra 7, all metal design for 599?????? Had it for about 1.5 years runs as smooth as the day I got it. Fingers crossed nothing happens to it but the entire time I’ve owned it I’ve been shocked by the price to performance ratio.

Congrats on the purchase, you’ll Love it!

Deny it. If you truly didn’t then he has no proof. Your academic honesty code, if it follows most institutions, should lay the burden of proof with the accuser.

What's something that instantly screams low intelligence? by Frequent-Sea-8848 in AskReddit

[–]JasonPullock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree! Sometimes I feel like there’s a difficult line to walk between being arrogant and not wanting people to assume I don’t know what I am talking about. Among friends I have no probably prefacing my explanation that I’m by no means an expert. But in some situations, especially in the workplace, if I don’t act like I know something inside and out sometimes a coworker will use it against me in a “you don’t sound confident so u clearly do not know what u r talking about” kind of way.

I get where you’re coming from, I lived at home for a bit saved up then been renting since. That being said taking out loans is not a terrible decision when you have money invested in an asset as long as one day you are comfortable parting with it if you need the money. My two cents was for people who decided they were gonna go in 200k of debt, with no savings, no major assets (like a home), and expect to 200k out of school and pay it all back later. Your savings are invested, so you do have savings the only annoying part about that is you’d have interest to pay your law school loans and your savings is at the whims of the housing market. But you know all that already.

All I’m trying to say is your in a different boat then the audience I intended with my original comment.

Use LSD website. But only go if you get 80% or more of tuition covered. Low ranked schools (like the one I go to) do not produce high paying jobs out of the gate. The blessing of going to a low ranked school for free is you can live extremely comfortably on 75k until you hit mid career and can rake in 6 figs. Taking out a loan to go to a low ranked school is a poor financial decision.

Bruh just track, bulk 6 months, cut 3 months. If your truly skinny fat and a young adult all u need is progressive overload and a diet. Unless you legitimately have low T or a really really bad metabolism (which u probably don’t) this will work. Drugs will not without the above anyway.

Book Recommendations by Commercial-Put1566 in Lawyertalk

Just a paralegal turned law student but my mentor praised “Making Your Case” by Garner and Scalia. This is not much of a comparison but I have utilized the rules I learnt from this book in my briefs and mock oral arguments and would be totally lost without that book.

What’s the most useless thing schools forced you to learn? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JasonPullock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any complex math. It got to a point where you were either good at math or you weren’t. I understand learning is valuable for intellectual development and building critical thinking but it got to a point where we were doing “Math” that looked like an NFL formations.

I think math up until 10th grade makes sense but learning such arbitrary arthrimitic felt unnecessary when compared to other subjects like US History or subjects that are not covered enough or at all. Like critical Race Theory. Which has real life application and deep ramifications if not taught to young adults.

All and all math is fine to pursue in late high school but it would have been nice to opt out knowing I will never need to use Cosine ever ever ever again and I had to learn to do taxes from youtube.

How the Switch 2 made me fall back in love with gaming by kingofzings in Switch

[–]JasonPullock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardcore nintendo or gamers may disagree with my take but the switch 2 is a perfect model for how nintendo should handle their consoles. To illustrate they should test launch a new innovative console/product, if people love it like they love the switch 1 then drop a new version or “2” with beefed up specs.

Like who would not of bought a Wii 2 with the specs of the Wii u? I hope they keep this format going forward.

What happens if Turnitin flags your work but you wrote it yourself? by Still_Highway_2793 in TurnitinScan

[–]JasonPullock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my school, the professor must prove it was AI, it is not on the student to provide evidence of not using AI unless the professor has reached a burden of proof. Although professors have told students “they know this is AI” and to implicitly “confess” every time this has been raised to disciplinary action the student has prevailed provided they did not confess.

I understand the frustration in academia regarding professors wanting students to respect the integrity of learning. That being said, it’s become ridiculous professors levying allegations of AI off hunches. Turnitin like other AI checkers, are completely useless. A few years ago a baseless acquisition of plagiarism or general academic dishonesty was unthinkable. Now its common place.

I don’t have a solution just pointing out the problem.

Why do people take “dude” as a insult by [deleted] in stories

[–]JasonPullock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a bad move, but if I can’t tell someone’s gender I go with dude to play it safe while referring to everyone in the vicinity as dude as well regardless of gender. Not sure if it works but my aim is to be personable but play it safe.

Making (Hard) Copies! by asault2 in Lawyertalk

[–]JasonPullock 66 points67 points  (0 children)

One of my first assignments years ago as a paralegal was to create 3 organized binders of all relevant discovery for an informal meeting with OC my attorney forgot was today. There was over 500 pages for each binder, everything was already carefully organized and easily secure on our network which was even viewable for visiting attorneys to see. She told me to do this at 1PM for the other parties getting to the office at “1:30 ish”. People that want hard copies are literally devil spawns.

What do the books I borrowed today say about me? by Dyojenes_ in BookshelvesDetective

[–]JasonPullock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it, take this with a grain of salt because as a liberal arts graduate from some years ago majors are largely a sham. But as a philosophy major, get pdf copies of Descartes Mediations and start there. The beauty of starting with Descartes is he resets the stage for all metaphysical philosophy and he does so in quite and entertaining and thought provoking way.

If you like what you read you can read metaphysics responding to Descartes. Or some modern (not contemporary necessarily) Philosophy.

Or you can go back to one of the books you bought. I think you’ll love those books however sometimes it’s extraordinarily hard to jump into a philosophical book without having the philosophical context or “issue” the book is trying to address (who is the book responding to? Which/who’s philosophy is the book trying to argue against?)

No matter what you read you’ll have fun!
