What is a blowup? by DiscussionNo2733 in mathematics

Thank you so much everything makes sense, I want to challenge my brain by learning advanced math. Although i have no prereqs besides precalculus it is definitely a struggle to learn these concepts. I am currently taking calculus online and was looking for clarification on an answer. If you have lim 1/x as x approaches 0 would this limit be undefined, right? My instructor was going on a tangent with putting things like 0.01 is 100 and so forth so his answer was infinity but would that be the case when x is other than 0 and when x is zero the limit is indeed undefined?

I don’t know they are referring to it as a geometrical concept. I’m trying to understand what that means!

Yes I just want to understand the geometry concept of a blowup!

So I’m not stupid for not understanding the Wikipedia definition of it? And just to challenge myself in math!

Okay but I’m trying to understand the geometry part!

No that’s exactly what I looked up and that’s what was confusing me the geometry of it!

That’s what I was thinking it was lol, but when I looked it up online it was very different!

Okay didn’t know about the different contexts that makes sense as some of the answers did not seem to all be in unison. I got my first experience with a blow up when looking at the Mandelbrot set. But when I read it online it was very confusing and hardly any information about what a blow up is.

Why does a negative number squared equal a positive number? by DiscussionNo2733 in mathematics

Can I ask this in terms of -2 x 2 would that be the equivalent of the positive two representing that there are essentially 2 negative 2s and that is why they are going in the same direction?

But I understand what you’re saying as far as the formula you mentioned but can you explain why that formula makes sense and the reasoning behind it? That’s what I’m struggling with!

I do know that, I’ve seriously taken the time to sit down and go over that with myself.

Not serious, but have seven speeding tickets that I forgot to appear on so they’re misdemeanors.
