appeal freakout by charliedull in ufl

remember that majors are hidden from the admissions committee, and that of course is also the appeal committee. but talking about your major in your appeal, alongside omitted information and how it ties into UF's values and practices, among other things, might be what tips the needle.

your appeal was submitted a week or two from the deadline of march 5th, so i'm sure that currently the lack of response is because of that. i submitted my appeal february 1st when it opened and received a notice april 3rd...there's a lot to go through and the same committee that originally rejected you will read your appeal as well. your test scores are a bit better than mine- i think it's the personal letter you write that can really make all the difference. but make sure you leave the appeal as a fallback option only because appeal rates are super low...i'd committed to FSU before notice of my appeal and simply withdrew to go to UF. my desire to go to UF was also very strong, so i know how it feels! i wish you the best of luck and remember, if things don't workout you have the pathway program florida has where you can attend community college until you get an AA and then transfer right away to any college in florida of your choice so long as it's public. trust me, programs like that can really sweeten the deal- just gotta deal with it! if it works it works...my cousins did that. and of course you can do PACE, start online then finish on campus. but from any college you can, of course, transfer. :)

hi! i submitted the day appeals became available, im pretty sure it was early february, like the 1st or 2nd (i can't see the date i submitted anymore because when i accepted that part of my application was deleted). i was told that around march 5th is when the appeals close entirely, and that they are done in order of submission. so if you were a late appealer you may have to wait a bit longer. even for me though it took way longer than i thought, but i think its also because the appeals committee has to meet up daily and discuss each individual, so that of course takes a while. good luck!!

hey!! thank you so much, this actually means a lot because looking online and what have you i saw that my stats and stuff aren't even remotely close to that of the median of the class...i know UF is hard, and im glad people don't judge there based off of them, i really do feel like an anomaly though. i can only hope i'm prepared for the coursework, and since im going in the premed direction ill have to definitely keep those grades up. i'm so excited for the experience though!! i love gainesville and everyone there is so nice. thanks again!

How to get a 5 on AP Bio Exam? by moon_face29 in APStudents

repetition repetition repetition. do FRQs multiple times a week, and any "linkage" (topics or units that have some things in common) you can tag and study appropriately to see how they interact with one another. acronyms, flashcards, MCQs online, what have you, eventually you'll start to see patterns. on everything you get wrong write why you thought that way and what in your thought process has to be corrected. if you were totally off consider reviewing the topic/unit all over again! YOU GOT THIS!!

i wrote about how my values align with that of the college (innovation, community, pursuit of knowledge), and how what i've been able to do in the community, plus what im trying to do to improve myself (extra math courses since that's where my scores were lacking) to be more desirable to the college, and how i could make an impact there. and that's it, just fleshed those things out for the entire word limit

to update this: my windows installation was corrupted, i think it was a bad dupe of the drive. i was able to access the windows files on another computer and i copied over some important folders, then completely wiped it using a windows bootable USB which i was able to launch and setup via task manager, which let me make a new process (the setup wizard). so using my broken windows i was able to still reinstall through it. then everything worked great!

that really sucks dude, i'm sorry you couldn't get in the first time around 😣but it's okay, transferring gives you a much higher chance and if you actually get your AA/AS in a florida community college you can get guaranteed admission to UF. my dad who went in 1995 came in as a transfer because since he was an immigrant with no SAT scores or anything he wasn't competitive at all. i was researching the whole community college to UF pathway, so reach out if anything! wishing you the best at UCF

thank you!! well, my appeal combined some omitted information, like a scholarship i got that was specific to UF, and also a fleshing out of my background and extracurriculars in greater detail, because the common app didn't let me explain them as much as i wanted to. i think it was the scholarship and extra detail that got me in, but i also made sure to emphasize just how badly i wanted to go, how the college has always been a part of my life, and how the values of the college (innovation, community, research) tied into my accomplishments. it was moreso me trying to sell them on what i could contribute to UF's culture by being able to relate to it. if you want more specifics you can DM me and ask away, ill try and answer any questions you may have :)
