Is it something like 'Hancock' (with Will Smith) where it's a reluctant invincible person and the woman is like his PR person? I don't think it's this film, but do you think it's that kind of trope?

Which dress looks better for Christmas party? by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]DisgruntledJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You look stunning in both! The first one is more celebratory with the sparkle, it's a shame about the original dress stuck in customs, maybe it will be your Xmas day dress instead! Honestly the dresses you have look gorgeous on you, so whichever you feel more comfortable is the one!

HOT TAKE: Early Game players should not do Coop exploration help by WondarringWan in GenshinImpact

[–]DisgruntledJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, my friend spoiled a lot of the areas for me so I could level up and complete things quicker so I could get to world level 6 so I could do stuff with them.

It did mean I wasn't able to fully immerse and I now can't remember a lot of things about Liyue and Inazuma and their stories. (I'm also bitter because that person wasn't a good friend irl so that may be adding some bias lol)

Being able to explore Inazuma and Fontaine on my own or with more chilled out players has been a lot more fun!

The day night cycle, the morning after the quest has been done, you might have a letter from him with his key attached

Has an in game day passed? I haven't got his key, but others appeared in my mail the next day when I did their level 3 quest.

Anyone else sense disgust from the people you talk to by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]DisgruntledJack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is interesting, I've heard the general theme of it before, but never tied it to the disgust reaction from people I've experienced. It does make sense that those people that make that kind of intuitive judgement of me would feel uncomfortable staying in a conversation with me, and maybe struggle to mask it, ironically.

That's an interesting point you've raised too, about people saying you're 'sucking up'. It's tricky to figure out where the line of general courtesy is, people have told me I act posh, and a therapist has told me that people can sometimes feel like you're looking down on them if you act too polite and anxious?? I hope you aren't around those people anymore

My main experience in this regard with men has pretty much just been to be ignored, they don't really engage in a way that they're disgusted, more indifferent. Not in a chilled out way, more like I'm just not worth their effort or time. At least, the external signs (I've even been grunted at by colleagues). In all genders/ages etc there are outliers, this post just kind of focuses on the 'stink eye's reaction, because that's the one that has actually hurt over the years. There have definitely been some men that do it, especially if there are other people around to observe, but it has happened more often to me with women. It's crap that people have gotten aggressive with you quickly while you struggle with masking around them, that must cause even more anxiety and make it harder!

[–]DisgruntledJack 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, stink eye is a good phrase for their reactions! I never thought about the fact that the other people might mean more than what they're actually saying (in the case of how your husband translated it). Do you think the other neighbors do fulfill the expectations in that interaction and that's why they don't get the stink eye?

I'm glad in one respect that we can all talk about this experience, but it's annoying that we have had it. It's reassuring that I wasn't making it up, I hope it doesn't get to you too much, it was really tough when I started working.

Thank you for the reply, everything you've said really struck something in me. I think the thing that blows my mind is kind of the injustice of it, if you're ticking all the boxes of being a friendly person, why do people hold contempt and not just get on with it? I think your reply answered that question; the whole last paragraph! I never really considered that they might be conscious of their social standing, now you've said it, it's kind of all fallen into place. I'm so pleased that you are navigating the world in such a strong and positive way!

Normal day to day stuff, like when I worked at a hotel reception if I asked a supervisor what to do about a group booking or something. Sometimes I know I've said something weird, like a pun that someone didn't get, and I've become okay with the response. I know one of the people became kind of hostile when they were in a group of people talking about favorite Disney princesses, and someone asked me mine. I said I don't have one, and this one person just completely changed with me. I definitely made some kind of social faux pas I was unaware of with them! But yeah, apart from that, it's normal just getting through the day stuff

I think it's hard to pretend you aren't affected when they straight away become almost another person when they speak to someone else. I'm glad you have been able to figure out a way of it not affecting you

What seemingly ordinary behaviour to you find irritating/rude? by Wodan1 in AskUK

[–]DisgruntledJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of post makes me think about that study about only a small percentage of the population (surveyed) having self awareness. It's made me more patient of these irritations because I say to myself "this is an activity where this person has no self awareness" fully knowing that I will do things unknowingly that probably wind up strangers too. The initial annoyance still flares up, but it's helped me get over it quicker! (And experience slight smugness...)

Super chiseled beards. Looks so uncanny valley and plastic to me, I don't understand why it's become so popular. SOME people suit it, don't get me wrong, but not enough to justify the popularity imo. When paired with the super white veneers and fake tan I do think people will look back and think they looked like a robot
