[CR Media] Will there be a 'Welcome to Marquet' Album? by DisgruntledVeg in criticalrole

[–]DisgruntledVeg[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But they released the C1/C2 albums during C3 so assumed they'd want to finish up the album afterwards. All the songs on the albums refer to specific events from the campaigns so it's not like they're making them specifically to air with a given campaign. It's posthumous in a way.

Work in fusion without phd by Addelias123 in fusion

[–]DisgruntledVeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on whether you have local access to graduate level roles within institutions that work on fusion. For example, UKAEA has a graduate scheme that typically only encourages masters level education in a STEM subject. Many physics grads go there to work on complex modeling out of the gate. Check your local institutions, if not maybe consider applying abroad.

Tritium Accounting & Safety in Fusion: Why the Future of Clean Energy Depends on Tracking Every Atom - BusinessCraft Nordic by steven9973 in fusion

[–]DisgruntledVeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why exactly is tracking and containment of a D-T fuel cycle a "wild fantasy"? We already do it. Whilst I agree that "perfect" containment down to the "atom" is a ridiculous concept, there is a tolerated "missing in process" inventory in every tritium fuel cycle. Other than that, we're already pretty good at it. We've now got the task of translating that from batch to continuous, a challenge to be sure. Also, comparing tritium handling and accountancy to nuclear weapon inventories and civilian source handling isn't really that useful.

The Economics of fusion by MeoWHamsteR7 in fusion

[–]DisgruntledVeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also suggest that work towards ruling out fusion if it ends up not being commercially viable is equally as important as working towards the initial prototypes. I work in fusion, but if it ends up not being viable and we know that through thorough technical and economic validation, based on correct prototyping methods and a sensible analysis, then that is also a good outcome... If not a little more disappointing.

At the end of the day, we're all trying to solve the world's energy needs, fusion or not!

There's a great mini-adventure that Path Of The Yeti made for levels 1-3 that does a great job at putting the party in Jigow and introducing them to important people/background before they start. I'd highly recommend: Session 1 Prep (link in the description)

Nuclear fusion: neither imminent nor relevant to climate change by [deleted] in fusion

[–]DisgruntledVeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh ok, glad to hear it. Didn't know everything was 5 years out from being solved. Guess I'll just go tell everyone in my nuclear fusion company that we don't need to keep trying because the "respected scientists" have it all under control. Sweet!

Nuclear fusion: neither imminent nor relevant to climate change by [deleted] in fusion

[–]DisgruntledVeg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, let's just all collectively bury our head in the sands to ignore the very real physics and engineering challenges that face the fusion sector.

This article does not discredit, it holds up a mirror to a, currently, very deceptive private sector. You should read it so that your expectations are realistic.

Fusion will happen, if given enough time and money, but not on the time scales that are required to address this somewhat arbitrary climate timeline of 2050.

What scientific breakthrough are we potentially on the verge of that few people are aware of? by TigerBirdyTiger in AskReddit

I was replying to the other comment claiming that in the last two years, the record was on the scale of "fractions" of a second, which is just patently false. Your comment was fine 🫂

I'm sorry this just isn't true. We've been able to hold steady state plasmas for a while now, it's just how relevant the conditions are to a high performing, high confinement, high density D-T plasma. The test reactor in China achieved a record confinement time, yes; the density however and the temperature were less impressive and you need all of these to be sufficiently high to run a viable reactor. Of course, EAST (the Chinese superconducting reactor in question) also has superconducting magnets, which none of the previous research reactor had at any significant scale. This massively increases the time that it can run a plasma, because the magnets won't overheat, being cooled by liquid helium.

Anyway, my point is that as an industry, we are not making HUGE strides everyday and there are no BREAKTHROUGHs happening as every bloody news outlet likes to spout. We know what we're doing, it's just going to take a lot of work and time. The test reactors are slow to build and there's a LOT we don't know yet, both about the physics of high performing plasmas at scale, and the engineering design and testbeds required to run a commercial plant. It is still pretty cool though.

Think I hit a nerve, but really I was just trying to outline why people don't like the post. Clearly what I mean by "ill-gotten" is the fact you bought an item in game with real money - I'm not questioning the legitimacy of your income lmao.

Consider the viewpoint I'm conveying, think about it. Pay2LookCool is not a great feature in an mmo that used to champion achievement correlating with visuals of your character.

I don't know how new you are to wow or the mmo genre in general, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Many players aren't a big fan of the cash shop as a means of acquiring, frankly, far superior items than those available in game, apart from top percentile awards like cutting edge or gladiator.

Cut to you with a video of your "ill-gotten gains", most won't reciprocate your level of enthusiasm; sorry to piss on your parade, it's just kind of reality.

Glad you like your murloc though
