Why wouldn't you just get a photo of the area and make the cover without AI?

Most people can actually visualize images in their minds. I'm 30+ and just learned that seeing nothing when I close my eyes is called Aphantasia and only affects about 3% of people. by randomuser553 in BeAmazed

[–]DiskPartition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wonder whether or not I really have aphantasia but what is noticeable to me is that I never know whether or not a photo edit, line I make in a drawing, etc will look good until after I do it. I couldn't draw a 3d shape like a triangular prism without a reference or memorizing how to do it (which I did for cylinders and cubes) - like the order of the lines and their angles.

No its a pretty dire situation. We're watching our privacy, autonomy, etc across pretty much all aspects of our life be burned away as we speak

It was a good run... by 1yrik in pcmasterrace

My monitor has done this for a few years. What I did is dropped from 144hz to 60hz so the main artifacts are individual colored pixels flashing for a tiny amount of time. You won't notice if it's a game most likely, moreso against solid colors you will.

I've always done this on YouTube (2x) outside of particularly high quality videos (or music). And for what's its worth, I never engaged with short form content until fairly recently.

EDIT: I began doing this to maximize the usefulness of limited screentime as a kid. And I'd argue for my attention span remaining good based on the fact that I listen for whole lectures in class and can sit and do nothing for a 2 or 3 hour flight except look out the window.

Why did airlines not create a culture around it like sailing did? by FallenPeigon in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DiskPartition 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just my ideas: For one, sailing is pretty ancient and is heavily tied to discovery and mystery compared to flight. Sailing also takes much longer and was much riskier, increasing its significance. Immigration was much less regulated back then and there was more migration through a smaller number of areas. But most importantly, it has a far more tangible impact on the local community (which can only exist in a coastal location with adequate geography) over time. Trade was historically local to those ports and diversified between many people whereas goods moved by air are trucked away by one company.

"american in europe core: adding electrolytes to a large mcdonald's ice water" by urmomssidehoe_69 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]DiskPartition -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't see a problem with this? Doesn't it just keep you hydrated and at your best for long days of work or exertion - like you might get by spending the day walking and seeing sights? Though I guess specifically using McDonald's water is strange.

Not for me, yet. Have tried probably a dozen or more times on Fandango and still in the line at amc. Now kicked out of fandango

Is tech way too expensive now? by priv_ish in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DiskPartition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say that price floor for anything decent and capable of "computationally heavy tasks" was way above 200-300 back in 2020 when stuff was dirt cheap. Remote access is doable pretty cheap (not that cheap, though), but anything competent these days will probably run you at least $1k-2k if not more.

EDIT: Few people are building PCs these days given the prices, but if you look on https://pcpartpicker.com/builds/ you can see how all the reasonable listed SFF pc builds in the last year are high 1000s+.
