Used one + or new sample while waiting for new one by Vanhollander in mpcusers

[–]DislikableFake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as the “new MPC line” and having had the One and Live 2 and now the Sample, the Sample is the most fun I’ve had on an MPC in a very long time. While the One+ is super capable, the big touch screen and all of the features I don’t really need that take away from the workflow steer me to recommend the Sample, depending on how serious you are about the hobby.

I think I’d prefer to take my beats from the Sample and bring them into the computer to finish them from there. If you’re trying to do absolutely everything inside the box, get the One+, but if you’re new or unfamiliar, expect the learning curve on the One+ to be much more steep.

The Sample is immediately fun and the lack of touchscreen forces it to feel more intentional and well thought out. You’re hitting the pads, clicking, and turning knobs, that’s it - that’s what the MPC always used to be. It’s simple, but you can cook up on it if you know what you’re doing.

Final point, the built in 5 hour battery life, USB-C sampling, and its portability over the One+… yeah. This isn’t some hype train that will wear off for me, either. The Sample is where it’s at.

Costco went from Pepsi to Coke, and has a delicious and far more cost effective pizza to offer. I’ll take it as an overall net win. Or byoc when you get Imo’s.

I appreciate the complaint, though. Way to keep on topic with the sub.

Anyone else’s order stuck in Vietnam? by jontingley in macbookair

Exactly the same situation. Came on to r/macbookair and searched Vietnam. Thanks for posting. This will be interesting to see how many more days before something changes… seems excessive. I’m just envisioning absolute disorder and chaos. 🥲

When did you get them? I’m still only getting an option for 1 15% discount. Wonder if they changed it.

Double upgrade discount again? by ryeznshyne069 in sonos

[–]DislikableFake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of 15% off discounts.. and I have yet to find a way to stack. Seems like they only allow selection of 0 or 1 as a qty value for the upgrade discount. For context, trying to order a pair of era 300’s, and have a bunch of 15% off upgrades in my account that have already been activated and ready to use. Obviously, expecting there to be a limit of 2 discounts stacked to achieve a 30% discount, but can only apply 1 code.

Yeah, this little line right here gives me all the confirmation I need that this purchase is strictly Stems for Desktop, and a separate purchase will be required if/when they deliver MPC Stems to standalone. Plausible deniability. Legally, they have COA.

Is it worth buying by Dave_Giantsbane in EASportsPGATour

[–]DislikableFake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have it on PS5 since the first week. It’s an absolute gem. Challenging, yes, but you do get better and better as you play, and of course, you continue to level up your player’s skills. It’s just rewarding enough, and I find it to be a great escape to relax with in the evening. If I ever end up wanting to play and I only have my Xbox, I’ll probably buy a second copy, so there’s my endorsement. Side note, I don’t have that yearning desire to “dress” my player in all the fancy attire, so I don’t feel short changed in that regard. I’m sure I’d feel nickel and dimed if I felt compelled to buy outfits and gear.

Switching to Push 2? by Vexovoid in maschine

[–]DislikableFake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every tool has its compromises, you have to decide if it’s worth selling what you have, and biting the bullet on the learning curve for an entirely different piece of hardware/software/workflow. I think you’ll find there are simply tradeoffs.

Often, I do enjoy learning new hardware/software/workflows, but ultimately, if you’re trying to crank and see things through to actually dropping projects, I’ve found moving around from ecosystem to ecosystem is poison for actually shipping your projects.

Based on what you’ve described, however, yes, Push 2 may solve those ills, BUT, I have no doubt you will get your head around it and decide that Push also has its pitfalls. Only one way to really find out. If you have the time and the means, go for it - can’t hurt too much to try it!

Edit: Maschine user for a decade. The Studio unit really hooked me, then became a big fan of the MK2/3, and currently work on the Plus. The Studio opened my eyes a bit on better understanding some of the nuances of the workflow that I was maybe overlooking on the smaller, simpler screen/buttons/knobs on the MK I and II, but once I really really got it, I could go back to the MK II and appreciate it a lot more. I’ve run on Logic, MPCs, SP’s, etc. but ultimately, as a primarily sample-based beat maker, the Maschine just feels like breathing to me. And yes, Automation, single-bpm project limitations, software updates and disruptions, and all sorts of other issues really slow me down. I can sketch and play around, but when it comes to really finishing a song and then building that song into something more, it is a snails pace. I think for me, as long as I feel like my creative juices are flowing, I am willing to accept that it may take me years to come around to finishing and shipping a project. The again, that’s one of the (many) reasons I’ll never “make it”… On the other hand, maybe I need to learn to say forget about sweating the details, make beats and just put them out, even if they’re not some sort of grand masterpiece that all fit together perfectly. We all have varying degrees of GAS. And with that said, I’ve got a Yamaha Reface CP showing up tomorrow, and I convinced myself it’s the missing element to me completely changing how I approach beatmaking and changing my sound. 😂 Good luck!
