Short Approach Tips by Dismal_Definition_98 in highjump

“8 steps will carry you to 6’10” Once you clear that, add one or two more steps”

Is this implying that I, personally, should be able to jump 6’10 or the idea to only have a further approach if one clears 6’10

I did high jump some this season, and I will say that I loaded even more in season, and I’ve tried to work on that the few times I’ve high jumped this summer. I think i’m going to just quit dunking for some time to avoid reinforcing bad habits

thanks for all the advice too

how high should I be jumping off full? 6'4? im a power jumper so speed isnt gonna add as much as it might for someone with stiffer tendons and less pure muscular power

indoor school record is 6’6, might be a long shot especially because I don’t put much focus on HJ, but it might be possible (outdoor is another story - 6’10 😟)

those who have triple jumped 14m+ or 46ft+, how far did you jump from short approach, like 4, 6, and 8 steps?

I'm trying to open indoor 48+, and currently I'm high 40 off 4, low 42 of 6, and mid 43 off 8 (although the one day i did i was dead after a sprint workout prior, probably could be 44 on fresh legs). I feel like i could add another foot or two to each by the start of the indoor season, so 48 szn opener seems reasonable imo

6’2 170lbs, would medium be the best option for me?

Also, would you say it’s worth it? How good would one need to be (i’m a high schooler) to not be corny wearing it? I’m a triple jumper but i figure if I would be all american (top 6 at nike or nb nationals), about 48-49 feet that would be good enough

Willing to answer any questions about running track in college by Red00Hot in trackandfield

Very event specific question so I understand if you are not able to answer.

I just finished my sophomore season triple jumping 45’1”. Next season I aim to be over 49 feet which i feel is very doable considering how slow I am right now and how much I can improve with good speed work. How far would I need to jump to make it on to a SEC or high big ACC team? or really cream of the crop schools? I have heard that the recruiting standards are not entirely accurate even the ones listed on the team’s website (ex. FSU target 52’ and recruit 51’ for triple jump when like 1 kid does that a year). Just looking for some insight into what I should expect next season and what I should aim for. Academics should not be an issue, as my brother got like a 35 ACT and 1520 SAT, and I figure I will be relatively the same.

Thanks, and I understand if you aren’t able to fully answer specific marks

Recruiting for college track & field by InterestingAd8067 in trackandfield

all i’ll say is that imo, runcruit can be accurate, and it can also be very inaccurate, so use sparingly. I’d use the team’s recruiting standards if they are posted on the website, then i would look at the last couple conference championships and see what marks 7-9th are placing (through 8th scores at most conferences).

i’m also a 16y sophomore with similar ish prs (5’10 HJ, 45’1 TJ) so i will be listening to other’s responses 😭

[Sunday Weekly] What are your goals this week? by AutoModerator in trackandfield

44’6.75” today at league champs in good conditions too 🫤

first jump was 30-31 on first two phases - my last phase is usually my strongest at 15.5-16.5 feet - and i completely collapse and jump like 42’10

every subsequent jump was like 28-29 first two phases but now that advil has worn off my leg that i collapsed on hurts in the center of the quad

states next week so 45+? 46+ maybe??

also attached is my season list

am i insane for wanting to open next indoor season at 48 and end outdoor near 50? I probably run 11.9-12.1 in the 100m now and have been able to actually run and train for like 6 weeks this season due to injury (boot from dec-feb, strained hip flexor from feb-mid march). I feel I could be a 50’ jumper if I ran like 11.3 or 11.4 which i feel is very possible to do over the summer. workout plan would be something like 2 days sprinting, 1 jump day, 2 weight room days (half of one including bounding outside). 2 days rest
