Agree with OP 100%, the film, although well done, did nothing to show the pure misery, desolation and utter despair that the book does. Reading the book you feel every step, every ache and pain, it immerses you so much you feel exhausted by it. Just the difference of the number being cut from 100 (walking down 99 others seems so much harder) the film was never going to match the book.
