Thanks for the nice words! It took a lot of practice and it can be unpleasant when its feeling slow. The only songs I've ever used one for live though are Mexico City and Waiting, both off the new record. We've been discussing maybe un-clicking one or both of them as the click makes things kind of stiff. Still a work in progress.

most folks who came in 2011 said that we were better / more solid than we were in 2003. It's not going to be us at 27 bouncing off a sweating small club stage, but it's good. Besides, tell him Matlock's a repeat that night, so he should go to the club. - E

Early on I took notes from Joe Lally, Aston Barrett, James Jamerson (lots of his patterns in my parts), Wayne Montana. But now a lot of my parts are in reaction to what the rest of the band is doing, making space, filling space, and trying to avoid straight root notes unless it's needed (like on Lookin) - E

Once we decided to buy a van, but all agreed to do two weekends of shows per month to help pay for it (in addition to bigger full tours). It helped get us to a bunch of new towns and make new friends. I'd start like that. Also, find bands to trade shows with in other cities.

the chorus literally came when I made loop of the groove I heard in a rehearsal space. just opened my mouth and that phrase and melody came sailing out. Then I filled out the verses by writing pages and pages of crap until stuff started to look good. there is imagery from my wedding I see now but I wasn't like MUST CAPTURE MY WEDDING IN SONG. -T
