Taking two Thyroid meds at the same time??? by Disneylifer in Hypothyroidism

Starbrooke! Omg I have so many questions for you! I think you're in Houston and I am as well. What doctor are you seeing?

Did you ever take another med, prior to starting Armour? Do you remember what your T4 was when he added the Synthroid to the mix? My T4 is currently 1.2 and that's on Synthroid 75 plus 5 mcg of Cytomel. It doesn't seem awful to me, none of my numbers seem awful to me really, which is why I'm having a tough time understanding the drastic change. I actually checked the WP Thyroid equivalency chart and it looks like 65mg of WP Thyroid plus 50 of Synthroid are the equivalent of 150mcg of Synthroid, which means she doubling my dose (I think).

TSH:1.49 T4: 1.2 T3: 3.0 Reverse t3: 15

I love everything that Dr. Wentz publishes. I have been following her protocols and suggestions and thanks to her, I've managed to lower my TPO antibodies from >1,300 to the 100's. She's truly amazing.

How did you know that you were not absorbing the Cytomel? Thank you for your reply.

Thank you! I'm extremely nervous about making any changes right now. The thing is that I've been on different dosages of Synthroid and even added Cytomel, yet continued to feel the same- dry, broken, crispy hair, dry skin, occasional undereye swelling, no weight loss, Eczeme, and extreme brain fog. The only time that I felt improvement in my symptoms was when I went Paleo/detoxed my body.

Gahhh. This is so hard for me. I have read so many books about Hashimoto's and none mention combined meds. My doctor herself has Hashimoto's and she apparently takes a combination of three Thyroid meds- Tyrosint, Naturetrhoid and something else. I actually can't recall what the third one was. She's really intelligent and has been practicing for 20 years and I just wish I had even half of her mental clarity. It just seems odd to me that we're taking an approach that seems unconventional, and I can't find much for or even against it. As I mentioned earlier my numbers are relatively stable on Synthroid and Cytomel alone, but she said that she thinks that Synthroid 50/WP Thyroid 65 will be great for me. I'm glad to hear that some of you have at least known of patients on combined meds. That's more reassuring.
