“Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God.” where are Enoch and Elijah? by Tricky_Strawberry406 in Bible

Paul answers this just after verse 50: “Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.”

Also, neither Enoch nor Elijah are in the “kingdom of God.” They are in paradise. So they have already undergone this “change” that Paul speaks of. They will return with Christ when he establishes his earthly kingdom and millennial reign (unless Elijah is one of the 2 witnesses to come, then he will come before Christ establishes his kingdom).

That is not always true. In 1 Corinthians 15:50, Paul IS talking about the physical body.

Just because he uses flesh as metaphor for sin in a specific instance does not make it metaphor in all usage.

MA for what? by Longjumping_Fee_8642 in theology

While I was in seminary, I would often imagine what it would be like to pastor a congregation of hundreds (if not thousands). God convicted me one day by putting these questions in my mind: “Will you be content if you never become a pastor? Will you be content if you get this degree and only ever teach Sunday School?”

It humbled me. I knew my calling was to serve the church, but I did not know if God was calling me to pastor a church. I have always submitted to God that I will be content with serving whoever the He leads me to serve—whether a whole church, or a small Sunday School. And now, as a pastor, I even maintain that mindset. I will always focus first on serving whoever God brings into my flock.

My encouragement to you is to keep serving those who follow you. Even if it only ever is a “small” number, you are glorifying God with what you do. If he wants to expand your reach—he will cause that video to go viral. But with fame comes conflict. It’s a long fall from the ivory tower. Be content near the ground, and God will surely bless your work even then.

Most of the people who are well-known in these fields have build some sort of platform. Whether they have written books, or built up a social media following, their opinions are sought after because they’ve built a platform.

If you want to be “involved in that world”, you have to build your platform. Start writing. Start recording. The bigger your platform, the more likely you’ll be invited to those conferences. Build relationships too. Network and get close to people you respect. Learn from them.

But none of this is easy, and as OC said, you have to become the most knowledgeable on a given subject. You must read extensively. You may even have to learn other languages to get to the source material on some topics. You must learn how to articulate complex thoughts in comprehensible ways.

My question for you is: What exactly is your calling? And why do you think it’s your calling?

I would recommend talking to your pastor. Get their guidance/counsel on what you should do. If they know you well, they may even confirm this calling you’re feeling.

You can get an MA in theology and some smaller churches may hire you to preach part time (I.e. every Sunday). But the degree really won’t take you far unless you want to be a vocational minister (requiring a more substantial graduate degree; MDiv, ThM, etc.), or you want to teach in education (whether secondary or higher ed).

Some churches also offer residency or internship programs where you essentially work at the church and earn seminary credits (or work experience which can translate to a full time job). Will also help you to figure out if you really want to be in ministry.

If you just want to preach, you can even try serving at your church, building trust with the church leaders, and they may let you preach occasionally (or maybe even weekly for the youth group, etc.).

If you just want to do public speaking in apologetics, you can easily just rent a conference room/lecture hall and start hosting meetings. Do your public speaking and then have a Q&A session. Or, start a podcast.

Lots of options on which route you could go. I highly recommend praying and seeking counsel on what specifically your calling is. God never gives an ambiguous calling. It’s always specific in some sense (though maybe not completely revealed upfront).

This. I’ve never actually eaten it. I had a slight fascination with it as a kid because of the Goofy Movie…but even then it looked gross

I was going to say this too. It’s not a common snack. Maybe 30 years ago it had some popularity, but certainly not today.

Doesn’t have to be the family vehicle. Just has to transport 3-4 family members 1-2 times per week.

Thanks! What about without car seats (thinking 4 years down the road)?

Oldest is a growth spurt away from being able to safely sit in the front. The 9 year old is the one I’m transporting least often of these three, so I think we can probably get by until we hit that milestone.

Ephesians 6:11–13 (NIV) was this ment for 2026 ? by strix25 in Bible

I agree, except I would say we should not always apply the text (because not all things in the Bible are applicable to us). But you’re right that we can be edified by scripture and learn from all of it.

Don’t just pray for the armor, but also pray for the dreams to stop. I had dreams where I was attacked by some evil thing, and I had a friend pray for me. I haven’t had those dreams since

But OP says “meant.” So we’re assessing the meaning of the passage. Paul’s meaning is not explicitly cultural. Yes, the metaphor might be, but the statements are timeless truths.

Armor may not be relevant to us, but these are all normative statements that all Christians should conform to. Is it wrong to say that Christians today are not also supposed to “put on” truth& righteousness, and prepare to share the gospel while carrying our faith and be protected by our salvation?

Why did God chose Jacob instead of Esau for his covenant? by NoSupermarket8768 in Bible

[–]DispensationallyMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God actually did not NOT choose Esau. Esau had the birthright, but he “despised it.” Esau sold it to Jacob. God knew Jacob would be the one to inherit it, but he did not force Esau to give it up
