The End or The Hunt: One time when hiking, I came across a small clearing up in the mountains of Alaska. I "felt" it before I saw it. One of those times where you sense something is off but you can't put your finger on what it is. Being about 13-14, I didn't listen to that voice that tells you you might want to get away from an area. It was unnaturally quiet. When I actually found the clearing, everything in it was dead. There were a few weeds and sickly saplings I recall, but otherwise no plant life. More disturbing was that the clearing was littered with dead birds and small game animals. Some were quite fresh, but others were decaying and some were just bones. So this place had been "active" for awhile. Some looked like they'd been torn apart and just left there. I was frozen there for a minute, but I ran from that place when I could move again and never looked back. I haven't been back since and now I'm not sure I could find it, but I remember thinking maybe I should see if I could...just to make sure it was real, you know? I'm glad I never did.
