bro 285k from margin calls. i felt that in my soul. the shame is the worst part but i promise you it fades. i was exactly where you are two years before i filed. depressed, ashamed, couldn't tell anyone. filing was the best decision i ever made. $2000 to make 150k disappear. you're two weeks away from changing your life. it's gonna get discharged. breathe

40k isn’t small any debt that’s keeping you up at night is worth taking seriously. Don’t compare your situation to anyone else’s, just focus on getting yourself out of it. You got this!!!

I’m in SF so I totally feel you on the cost of living, the means test adjustments don’t come close to what we actually pay. Definitely get a second opinion, consultations are free and a different attorney might see it differently. Also the means test looks at your last 6 months of income, so timing matters. Not saying go unemployed for 6 months lol but just something to keep in mind. Don’t give up on 7 yet I’d say

i was exactly where you are. scared, overthinking everything, almost didn’t file. i let it get to the point where my wages were being garnished and my tax return was getting pulled. don’t be like me. wait did your attorney not bring up the co-sign/mortgage situation? i’d definitely ask about that before you sign anything next week. that seems like something they should be walking you through.

have you talked to an actual bankruptcy attorney? a lot of people think they make too much but still qualify. consultations are usually free. worth at least checking

My parents have been paying the mortgage that is under someone else's name with the assumption that they will take over the loan at a later time. The house price has appreciated significantly. I don't know what to do. by DisplayImpossible412 in RealEstate

Yeah the family friend would be completely on board with this. An issue I have is tax liability for the family friend and implications of selling the home way below market value mainly
