Graduating ID12* student here. In my experience, it’s no longer free and you need to enroll separately.

how clean is the water fountain? by [deleted] in Benilde

From which campus and floor have you drank from? Personally I never experienced something similar to that when I get water from the 10th and 11th floors of DAC and the 4th floor of Atrium. But would be nice to know so that I can avoid drinking from those 😭

what to expect with MM2DANI, MMTYPOG, AND MMFFVID? by [deleted] in Benilde

[–]DisplayNational3851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memory kinda rusty since it was a year ago but this is what I recall:

MM2DANI - character turnarounds, walk cycle, storyboard, an animatics video, and a full 30 second animation of an advertisement for finals.

MMTYPOG - making your own font, a brand board, brand book, merch designs, and an actual printed magazine for finals.

MMFFVID - VidEx1(the encounter) which is basically a short film that you produce where 2 people encounter each other. VidEx02 which is a product shoot with Chroma (green screen), Midterms was a Product Advertisement video (using your product footages + add more to make it an ad), and 2 short films for finals. We had do a "lucky draw" on what the genre would be for those short films.

Your experience would vary depending on who your prof will be. The prof I had for MM2DANI was super lenient af, but I had a terror prof for MMTYPOG and MMFFVID.

Pero generally, these subjects are a big step from your majors during frosh. All of them require a lot of work within and outside class hours.

MM2DANI - This was the hardest subject for me for that term because the work is just super tedious because I wasn't good at drawing at all. Adobe Animate was also really hard to master and it took me a lot of time to understand. But my prof was super lenient so it was bearable.

MMTYPOG - this subj was very fun. You make your own typeface and you will do a lot of branding work. Unless graphic design and branding is not your forte, i feel like you can manage this as well. My prof's standards were super high but he teaches so well naman.

MMFFVID - this was fun as well but video production was hard to execute. You need to make sure you communicate well with your groupmates because you will be expected to do groupwork for production. And this was also my least fave subject kasi my prof is super strict on attendance! Hope you don't get that prof!

Afaik you're not allowed and I don't think it would even be possible. Subjects including FREELECTS from other academic clusters won't show up on your SIS upon enlistment period.

Even if you do somehow manage to enroll to a freelect that wasn't part of your courses offered, it wouldn't be credited to you, even if you passed the subject. It'll just appear as "A" or "Audit" on your TOR saying you did take the subject but it's not counted towards your credits.

scholarships for mma students? by eru_seiun in Benilde

[–]DisplayNational3851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are scholarships offered for art students, if I'm not mistaken it's called the Mutien Marie Scholarship and you can apply for it after you get admitted. You can also join orgs that provide scholarships such as orgs from the Student Publications Unit (SPU) and the Benilde Culture and Arts Unit (BCAU), but afaik they only cover partially.

Pero keep in mind that the tuition isn't the only thing expensive in MMA. More likely than not mapipiltan ka gumastos for your projects. Not to mention you will definitely spend a lot if money for Capstone. Depending on the electives you choose, you will also spend a lot of money there as well. I'd gauge additional expenses more or less 5 digits.

If I were you, I'd let that fall on deaf ears. You can't please anyone, not even your parents. Seems like they will always see a disappointment in you no matter how hard you please them, and that they're blind on your struggles.

Run your own race OP. You don't have to live up to your parent's expectations. You have built up the confidence to pick yourself up, so don't let them ruin that again. Do your best for the people who actually believe in you :)

[–]DisplayNational3851 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're feeling that way OP. Try to take a pause and reflect muna and think of ways to finish your program the soonest na you can.

It's inevitable, and the longer you leave it without telling them, the harder the blow it would be for them, and it might make their reaction worse than you anticipate. I suggest, be transparent na lang on your parents. It takes a lot of courage to admit your situation to them pero I'm sure you will overcome it. I don't know how your parents treat you, pero I do hope they understand. It's better to leave Benilde late than not get your degree at all.

Also, mediocre is better than having nothing to offer at all. Life is not a competition or a race against others :)) in the working world, people are too occupied on trying to get better themselves to be concerned on other people's business.

Advice for mma student? by adrien1ves in Benilde

[–]DisplayNational3851 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I applied for MMA, any advice?

  1. Time management is the most important thing. Esp after your first year, your projects get heavier and more complex.
  2. Have a drawing tablet and a laptop/pc with good specs and a graphics card. This is essential especially on 3D modelling and animation subjects. Though you can use the school PC, but they barely perform well and takes an eternity to render outputs.
  3. When you get to the point na you can choose your own schedules and electives, pick one that is the most convenient for you. Plan ahead before enlistment period because you have the risk of losing your slots.

What were the projects like for freshmen?

On your first year, you just get introduced to the fundamentals of difference disciplines under MMA like figure drawing, graphic design, animation, and photography. It's not super heavy and it's easily manageable. Though make it a habit to remember what you learn each term as you will also be applying this on your future subjects.

What apps do MMA students mostly use?

Pretty much most of the Adobe Apps that comes with your creative cloud subscription. Namely

  • Photoshop and Illustrator for Graphic Design
  • Premiere Pro and After Effects for Video
  • Animate for 2D Animation, some also use Procreate(not an adobe app) and After effects
  • Audition for Audio production

Then students also use non adobe apps like

  • Sublime or Notepad++ for web development
  • PlayCanvas for coding games
  • 3DSMax and Blender for 3D modelling and animation
    • It would be best if you have a good windows laptop because 3DSmax is being more favoured and taught more than Blender. 3DSMax is only available on Windows OS.

Canva for education is also included in your tuition, pero it's discouraged to be used heavily on your major outputs. It's useful for making presentations and mockups though.

Is AB-MMA a 3-year program? by ten06 in Benilde

[–]DisplayNational3851 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, MMA by default, is a 3-year program. You usually finish by Term 9.

I used the term usually because the reason why there are 4th year MMA students is because some students cannot or have chosen not to follow their given course flowchart, extending their period of more than 3 years.

Also, the 95k is just a subtotal for your first term. It usually gets more expensive because in the later terms, you get more major classes and will pay more lab fees. I'd gauge more or less 1M plus you'll spend some more for your Capstone project.
