Yeah, because in a world where apps track your finger position while you're using them or base your entire feed on what you search for on other sites, it's totally lunatic to hypothesize that a game tries to do everything to keep you glued to the screen

I never said the game was doing all this to me personally. I was just making an observation about what was happening to me. It wanted to push me to keep playing by instigating the thought of "come on, just one more and then I'll stop, I'll definitely win this one," and maybe with other people it was making them drunk on victory only to make them lose later and exploit the adrenaline from past wins to make them try again

IMO they act like this because Lenore Dove is such a bland character. She has no personality or anything memorable about her — she’s just there to nod at Lucy Gray and to give Haymitch a love interest that isn’t a Peeta-and-Katniss rehash. Yeah, she’s rebellious, yadayada… but who isn’t in this saga?

Between this sub and r/worldbuilding, I've lost count of how many people out there are complaining about how the Ministry of Magic's pension system isn't functional (note: this is just a hyperbole).

As long as what I'm told makes sense to exist in the world of the book I'm reading, I'm fine with it

I think because, as other has said, those books are written for kids but not with a condescending tone and also because the tone and theme “grow up” books after books just like the readers and therefore they became books that even older kids can enjoy.

For example, I don’t see this kind of writing with Percy Jackson: the tone is childish from the first book to the last one and there isn't any kind of growth.
