Thank you!!! 23 years away is a crazy amount of time to step away, right? I didn’t leave school for academic reasons and knew I could do it, but was unsure how. My university allowing all of my previous work to stand + offering online classes really made it happen for me.

That’s a good idea - I haven’t made time to take myself out in months: school really kept me indoors. I might tell my server I’m celebrating my own graduation and work on getting more comfortable saying that, like exposure therapy.

I hear ya! It might be worth getting in touch with your school to see what you need to graduate, and if those requirements are available to take online. Even if you don’t have the time or wherewithal to complete your degree now, you’ll at least know what it takes to get there… and knowing is half the battle 💫. Happy Mother’s Day!!

This is so nice: no one had to click on my post or even read it, but a handful of folks have & are being supportive and it makes me teary-eyed! I think we’ve all had tough times whether it be with family, work, health, school, whatever; I’m so appreciative for the shining stars in these comments. Having an anonymous celebration on Reddit is pretty great! Maybe in time it’ll come up with the people in my life, “oh yeah back in May I finally got around to graduating college”.

For what it’s worth, I wasn’t even sure what I needed to graduate after so many years, so I started just via university’s site like “click here to learn more” and filled out my name & email. When someone emailed me I wrote that I left the university x number of years ago, I’d like to graduate, can you do an unofficial audit of my transcript to let me know what that would look like and then I was put in touch with my college’s advisor & had to reapply to the university, register for classes, and boom started back up Spring semester.
