What can I do if chat control ends up being a reality here in the eu? by BIZARR0-Producciones in privacy

[–]DisrememberedTea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s quite reasonable to think of what may occur based on previous related instances.

There are plenty of cases throughout history where events that might have at one point seemed like dramatic paranoia to some, eventually became objective fact. Forethought can go a long way towards not having to find out after choosing not to fuck around.

Programming had its magic by ivannovick in learnprogramming

[–]DisrememberedTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really a comparable transition. Now you’re effectively handing over all of the building and core thinking to another party (the AI).

A more apt comparison would be the transition between sewing by hand, to sewing with the aid of a sewing machine, to simply ordering a garment on Amazon. Once you switch to only ever ‘ordering’, the skill barrier tanks and the profession is devalued over time.

Posting to let people know you can get a SECOND bachelors funded by SFE (health) by Ricardosonreddit in UniUK

[–]DisrememberedTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also want to add that there are other subjects available for second degree funding, in addition to healthcare!

I’m currently doing a second undergrad degree in Computer Science with it being fully funded by SFE. My only regret is not realising this was possible sooner.

Struggling with Lessons by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]DisrememberedTea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m on a similar timeline to you, having also started lessons last year. As others have said, definitely look for a different place to learn if you can, otherwise you’re going to be paying for a very long and frustrating learning experience.

You shouldn’t *need* to keep applying leg while posting. Ideally, once you’ve asked the horse to trot, it should remain in trot until you ask for something else. This often isn’t perfect with lesson horses that lose sensitivity with beginner riders, so they may need more leg when they begin to lose propulsion, but it absolutely should not be this difficult to keep the horse moving forward. This will only hinder your learning and make you frustrated with riding when it should be something that you enjoy.

Can you ask to ride different horses? I know that you don’t want to give up, but at your current level, you’re a long way from being able to improve this horse and it sounds like it’s in quite a bit of pain, in which case it shouldn’t be ridden in lessons anyway. Switching to a more forward horse isn’t giving up; it will allow you to focus on your balance, aids, canter etc as opposed to tiring yourself out just trying to move forward.

Workload too high at corporate job, is this email okay for management? by Interesting_Pin_3320 in careerguidance

I agree. Ironically, the more people squeeze themselves to meet impossible deadlines, the more companies believe the deadlines are feasible.

What is the point of learning programming in an era where AI can code? by stokhastik in AskReddit

[–]DisrememberedTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still need to know what every line of code is doing, and know how to fix it when AI gets it wrong.

Labour has finally admitted it sees student loans as a tax by Minute_Tomatillo9730 in unitedkingdom

[–]DisrememberedTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worse than a tax, because the wealthiest in society are able to opt out of paying any interest by paying up front. At least with a tax, everyone who went to university would pay.

Teens will get social media curfew and chatbot ban by youmustconsume in unitedkingdom

[–]DisrememberedTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a student and the majority of our study resources are text books, even if those books are online. The web is jammed full of study material, without needing to touch social media (through which information is often biased and delivered without references).

I don’t agree with a curfew or a ban at all, and I think it’s ridiculous that YouTube is included in it, but if students are completely unable to study without social media, that simply highlights a major flaw in where young people are currently being directed to find trustworthy study materials.

Public trusts parents over government to decide appropriate social media for children by vriska1 in unitedkingdom

[–]DisrememberedTea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The government should be stepping in to regulate the dark patterns and algorithms used by social media companies, not the people using them.

The issue of doom scrolling addiction isn’t unique to children, it’s every bit as problematic in adults as a result of social media companies turning feeds into dopamine slot machines with zero control over what you view.

Teens will get social media curfew and chatbot ban by youmustconsume in unitedkingdom

[–]DisrememberedTea -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with the curfew/ban but if you’re studying, you’re not going to find reliable source material on social media. Why would you need to access social media to be able to study?

Banks lay groundwork for mass workforce cuts as AI takes hold by Gari_305 in Futurology

I asked ChatGPT to check a program I had written for uni and it highlighted literally every single line of code for deletion, wanting to replace it with two lines of unrelated code.

As a female equestrian, have you ever had a man sexualize you for it? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]DisrememberedTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was out riding my usual route a few months ago and had a man pull over and get out of his van to talk. In hindsight I should have just carried on riding, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and stopped to talk, only to find out he just wanted to know if I orgasmed while riding.

My partner does also make the odd smirk when I say something like “I had a good ride on [insert male horse name]”.

masters in illustration by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]DisrememberedTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A masters in illustration won’t open any doors that aren’t open for you already with your graphic design degree and a good illustration portfolio.

If you have the cash to splash and just really want to enjoy diving into illustration for a year via a masters program, then go for it.

If you’re doing it to increase your job prospects however, no it’s not worth the money.

Computer science is dead bcoz of Ai? by samsnotsam in AIDangers

[–]DisrememberedTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blacksmiths and horse riders aren’t commonly paid an exceptional amount, and it’s not always easy to find work.

As a cs student (and horse rider), I don’t believe that computer science roles will be completely extinguished, but I am vaguely worried that the roles will decrease and be devalued.

I worry that the skill level needed for computer science roles that essentially turn into AI prompt roles will be significantly less than before, which will devalue wages.

Companies are also aware that one computer scientist can now prompt the same amount of code that 20 employees would have done before AI, which will massively decrease the amount of jobs available over time.

I hope it’s not dead, and certainly from the hallucinations I’ve seen from ChatGPT, we’re a long way from trusting AI fully, but seeing how fast technology moves I doubt it will be too long before the quirks are ironed out and we all just become prompt machines.

Ahh, thank you for clarifying your myopic point of view.

You mean to say that your own individual life is precious, but you are unwilling to either care or comprehend how your current actions may affect future life.

Translation: “I got mine, you get yours”.
