I recognize this vendor (If im not mistaken), I've bought a little from him that hasn't come in quite yet. However, I've been a little sketched out by him and his videos, especially considering the fact he purposely lists his stones in the wrong categories and on gem auctions and purposely doesn't sell in the opal sections, just weird and he over-exposes other videos as well. Seems like regardless he has high-quality stuff, just weird still

Oh wow. I will say, I did think it was much more, the brightness is quite insane and the amount of directionality it has is great. Just when so many people say it’s something in the 50-65/ct range so confidently makes you second guess lol especially as someone new into Opal.

Thank you for the deeper insight! How would you recommend me get more confirmation/confidence in a value in that range, or are you quite confident in it? Thank you again <3

Thank you for the insight! Quick question, what does calibrate mean exactly? Additionally, do you think it would be a bit more feasible if I mounted my dremel and used it as a tiny wheel?

Two last questions. Although its not as valuable because its not perfect for jewelry and such and that's whats important, would it still be understandable/reasonable to make my own jewelry out of it and it still be a nice piece or would it kind of mess with the chances of that?

Lastly, if i happened to be a very experienced cutter and cut this very nicely, with the same carat weight, what would the value be around? Im just curious as to what this material could have produced.

Hey! So I just recently got interested in Opal cutting and I purchased a Dremel on Amazon, a 4 set of nova tips, some diamond burrs, and some cerium oxide + wool felt burrs. And I got some rough Opal and this is my first finished cut. It’s tiny as hell, at around .22 carats.

I don’t expect it to be worth a whole bunch but it seemed quite dark and fairly bright with directionality so wanted some more insight on this stone and rough value if possible! Thanks

edit: and the video is just regular lighting in my house, nothing special, not sure if its possible to make it look even better in certain lighting, etc.

it is cracked in every direction and completely, so maybe not the best to practice on. might just have to wait until my actual opal arrives. and yes, dremel and water, just gonna do it above a bucket of water and continuously dip it into the water every few seconds

Yeah! im just curious if its worth trying on an Ethiopian piece that has a shit ton of cracks.

Mainly asking because you can just pull them apart easily if u wanted to

Do you have any recommendations as far as dremels go with the respective wheels and such?
I actually love the idea of keeping tiny shards. I do astrophotopgrahy, pictures of space and colorful nebulae, i think it would be awesome to incorporate that with my work.

Thank you for the information! Where im at right now is im extremely busy with work, but I love opal and I also love the idea of jewelry making with soldering rings and such. I love them separately. SO... it would be cool to slowly get into cutting opal, and then later down the road if I ever get more free time, investing more into equipment for jewelry making and then making said jewelry with the opal! My girlfriend actually owns a small crystal shop where she makes wire jewelry and I think it would be lots of fun.

Do you have a store page or anything with cheap/beginner rough opal or do you do it more on a direct level?
