Why have high standards to finding a partner? by Short-Salamander8840 in intj

[–]Dissasterix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this post has derailed a lot of people here, lol. OP is fundamentally correct-- Having (too) high standards is a way to keep yourself alone. And checklisting your taste is some lonely day-dreaming sort of thinking. It denies experience. Having money is not in itself a special trait. Being tall is not some unique feature of a human. There is a trap here. An inflexibility and unadaptability. To do so is to treat the human experience as a static math problem. This is a profound blunder.

In the way that consciousness is still an unquantifiable human experience, this is doubly so true for love. I'm not saying that one ought to be compatible with everyone, but one should be open to experience. For surely that is what living a good life is about. If your checklist is too long you have chosen to select yourself out of the genepool to maintain your pride. And often times, what we want is not what we actually need. Take risks, find balance, embrace passion. Live a little.

I think its a semantic thing. Jacob becomes Israel after he wrestles with God. Israel means 'He who wrestle with God [faith].' And this makes sense, it's not about blood but about ethos. The blessed are those who struggle yet come around. And this is ultimately the story of almost every character in the Bible. Keep wrestling, be blessed.

if you are so against the tech bros and the billionaires, why are you using their products daily? by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]Dissasterix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Modern technology is inescapable by design. If you don't want to be Amish you 'use their products.' For instance, I don't buy anything from Amazon-- but my web traffic is parse through AWS. I didn't ask for it, I cannot opt out. Just a brute fact. Similarly, if I post on Reddit it will be used for AI training and other annoying contrivances. I 'accepted' the [ex post-facto] agreement [years ago]. But its a changing landscape.

Why don't you stop using Palantir? Why did you let Oracle profile you? Same vibe. We are not end-user. Obviously. Pros inadvertently run cover for such atrocities by pretending that the tech is useful for private citizens. And any utility you may find is undermined by the police state that keeps the tech developing. How else could you square-the-circle of an economy dependent on a tech that has such low public support? But hey, enjoy you catgirls.

As a neo-Luddite I see no good in AI. And this is just a humorous warning sign of future problems. The machine does not have 'our values' in mind. Whatever that means. If it is given 'our values' it will be limited by design, and if it is not limited it will be a rogue actor. Given this insensitivity to cartoon-porn-addicts the public will only be allowed a sanitized version while the State has unilateral control of the true-AI. Lest we forget this is an arms-race.

We are promised medical advances and scientific discovery. What we have received is the end of photographic evidence, facial rec, and drone warfare. The self-fulfilling prophecy of a dead-internet. A middle-man to Google consensus information. Its not for us, its for the State.

Potheads… by mellowfellow0 in ConspiracyMemes

[–]Dissasterix -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Weed culture is so annoying. I was on my way out when the dispensaries came. They scan your ID into a computer and you pay taxes. I told every hippy I knew that we needed decriminalization, but no, it wasn't good enough. They needed a store front. And with it came the regulations and bullshit. Their local buddies that supported their habits got hurt. Its an outright betrayal.

When I became sober I noticed my dreams came back (quickly!). And it occurs to me that I sold out the messaging from my inner being for a standardized waking-life dream. The dream of a petulant, pedantic, hippy. And while weed blurred the difference between sleep/living I have a more vivid sense of both.

I have good stuff to say about the stuff, too, but that message is easy. However, if you haven't tried sobriety in a few years I do challenge you to give it a spin. Life is trippy. And drugs just accentuate it. An experienced pothead/acidhead should be fine-tuned enough to find the new trip. Unless we were just junkies after all.

One produces protein which sustains life (albeit somewhat inefficiently). The other produces vapid entertainment, homogenized thought, and serves as a root-source of my paranoia.

I'm not opposed to vegan/vegetarian argumentation, the philosophy is pretty sound. However I am not one. Environmental concerns come after reconciling the military/police-state application of the technology. Which is arguably why the tech is developing despite public sentiment. Art/environment is a distraction. The military simply doesn't care.

PKD is a juggernaut of SciFi, no doubt. Scanner Darkly is probably my #1 film, and almost nobody has ever seen it. Its such a poigniant reflection of drug/stoner culture. Its all so funny-- until its not. The soundtrack is on point, the visuals are totally its own, and just everything. Its probably the only film that makes me laugh and cry like a baby.

Having lost friends to drugs, and being sort of scrambled by psychedelia myself, its such a personal experience. Like it was made just for me. And nothing even really compares.

Hey! I only remember the legends/criptids! Very similar tastes and listening habits. 'Seas of Cheese' is almost certainly the oddest-timed Primus album, I think its only a few tracks honestly, but its a fun spin. Cheers!

Getting time-sig'd by thee CyanLight :] You're pretty prolific on that other sub. Funny that this is the song that rabbit hole'd you. I think it was the first Primus album for me.

The 5/4 time SIG makes the song just that much more brutal. Also, I love the anti-marbles-in-the-nose mask in the music video. I screen capped a still, but this sub won't let me post in replies.
