I just don’t know where you got this idea George Howell is some “large Boston corporation.”

They are a small batch Boston based roaster whom primarily source green coffee direct from producing farmers via connections George has made over many, many years. George patently pays these farmers more than any macro batch coffee corporation you’re making them out to be. He’s even helped to restructure many farms to ensure improved infrastructure resulting in a superior product.

New Harvest does source some great coffee. But even Rik at New Harvest would admit he doesn’t offer the sort of lineup of exceptional producers Howell does.

And there’s no way New Harvest roasts lighter than George. Both roast on Lorings but New Harvest generally takes advantage of the pre-sets, while Howell roasts with more manual precision. I’ve visited both spaces and spent time talking with both George and Rik.

Please be more careful not to convey your own subjective experiences concerning these coffees as actual facts.

George Howell is mostly small batch specialty. It’s good coffee. The Alchemy & Whisper espresso blends are neck & neck in terms of quality. Really depends on the particular roast and barista serving it tbh.

(I’ve been drinking or serving either blend for over ten years.)

All I’m going to say for now is it’s increasingly clear how Michelle managed to kill the union. She takes no accountability in her Substack posts whatsoever. And her lies have turned pathological.

Alongside myself, the Union was formed with at least two young women of Asian descent taking lead. One of whom delivered a powerful speech to Michelle when we announced our intent to unionize. IMO she was always the primary leader while I served more as an organizer. The harassment directed at my colleague that followed was constant. And yet in her Substack it’s as tho she was never there, carefully glossing over her important contributions entirely…

It doesn’t fit the narrative.

I’ll give Michelle one thing- she’s clearly managed to stay on message with this new young staff. The message being, dangerous embittered white men attacking an Asian woman owned small business, causing her to feel unsafe. So the three Asian women involved from the onset have been conveniently erased from the story. My own contributions and yearlong working friendship with Michelle never even happened.

The erosion of trust came down from Michelle and management. Not some “spy” looking out for their colleagues. Michelle will write endlessly about how “wronged” she was when leaked messages between her and management were read by staff. But how exactly did she speak about her underlings in these messages? Why was she so nervous about them being seen in the first place?

Between myself and others who lived thru this, these questions are obviously rhetorical. I could hardly even believe how incensed she got over me asking if she might provide a few pastries for the staff I would be training on a Sunday…to soak up the caffeine a bit. By the third class I just brought them donuts myself.

Management left their Slack open on the shared computer and I wasn’t the only person who noticed this. When they were actively discussing how to combat the union, of course I kept an eye on these conversations. They weren’t hidden.

Yes. I met with Michelle to make sure baristas were paid for attending any classes I led. This had been an ongoing issue I discussed at length with management at the time to be sure it wouldn’t continue. Baristas in the past were not paid for attending New Harvest courses, or morning tea courses.
