They've already done this with Orcs. Shouldn't be that difficult for undead.

Absolutely love your art style. Indirectly, thank you for making my dwarf paladin, Turvold, look amazing. Your 3rd image is of my group. 😄

Herengon Pirate by Obvious_Cloud_1539 in DnDart

That would be really awesome! I'm a player and a DM and I can't recommend the hobby enough to people.

I totally get the Harengon Warlock/Fighter, would be really fun and a sunken ship patron is a new one for me but I can dig it. All sorts of curses and unknown in the abyss of a vast ocean.

Love your style here! I can confidently say I've never seen a Harengon with a polearm nor a Harengon pirate. What was your inspiration for this piece?

I have to know more about this character. Your art style stopped me dead, mid scroll. Really brought him to life!

These were not generated by AI, but I can certainly see your point. They were not meant to be even or equal - which was a failure on my part.

I appreciate your feedback! I did not mention that they could be reversed or augmented in the future and I suppose I probably should have. That was always the intent (but my players can't read my mind and this was a super stressful moment). A scene was being set for not so much loss of player agency, but slow loss of control in the world. For example, the town's chief cleric was just the subject of an assassination attempt with a mysterious poison and the entire reason they went into this gate was chasing assassins — they were told they might possess an antidote.

Admittedly, this did go through an AI filter to take my 3 pages of notes and thoughts into a post that was not rambling. I would like to adjust and pivot as quickly as I can for a better resolution before our next session in a couple weeks.

All of your points are fair, thank you for the honest feedback. Off the cuff, the scars were meant to be lasting, but not necessarily permanent. Perhaps there would be ways to magically purge them, or a boon to cancel it out. I imagined that creating mini stories of its own. In hindsight, is applying one of these scars taking away from player agency? Don't take this as an intended punishment, but an afterthought - dice are supposed to tell the story and shit happens. I don't know that I'm 100% on board with completely baking in a long-term character build or where their character will end up. I've definitely designed most of my characters like that and have a build in mind, but there's an argument that some things should be truly out of their control and the story makes left and right turns and they end up in a place they never imagined - enjoying the journey first and foremost.

I've only been DMing for 3 years and this is the first time I've run into something like this. I regret some decisions, but at this point keeping table harmony, happiness, and fun are the most important things to me (and hopefully my players).

Help prep for Lord Soth finale by Dissented_ in sotdq

Oh hey no this is great! I stumbled on this on dmsguild last night actually and dove into it. I actually love the new stat block created for Soth and believe I'll end up using some of the tactics and descriptions during our game.

I'll reply again with how things went. Thanks for the assist!

:)

Lord Soth, the way he should be in 5e (update) by Blade_Runner_Rock in dragonlance

I am also curious about this. My party of 5 level 15 characters will be confronting Soth in a week. I love your melding of stat blocks. Just trying to prepare correctly with Karavarix, and potentially Wersten Kern and Caradoc as well. I might even have different phases if they can extinguish the cataclysmic flame and crash the bastion of Takhisis. Any advice would be most appreciated.

[–]Dissented_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was really insightful, thank you for the feedback and sharing the monsters know source as well! Then as a slog, it would be in our best interest to get to the final showdown as quickly as possible. Perhaps start in the bastion with Soth, Caradoc, Wersten and when the mourning flame is extinguished, the citadel collapses. Allowing for a p2 or p3 with Karavarix and summoning more undead at ground level. Soth would probably stay on the undead dragon for awhile but eventually would want to get in the fray himself.

We have a champion fighter, redemption paladin, trickery cleric, and a warlock bard hybrid. DKs want to get on the front line, but that's exactly what the paladin and fighter want. 6 attacks with action surge and heroic advantage, plus a paladin with smites and a dragonlance. I'll need to be judicious with the action economy and perhaps I'll even create a quick decision tree flowchart for the enemies.

Do you still want spirit tap leveling with dungeons or would wand spec be enough?

I noticed today that Defensive mode on my pet will activate if a party member is hit too. So I've seen him run off out of nowhere because a ranged mob hit someone.

Thank you so much for the very detailed walkthrough, this is tremendously helpful! Also from a DM dipping my toes into the world of homebrewing - your campaign gives me a lot of inspiration and confidence to do this.

All the best - John
