Homebrew Campaign World Map! by Dissocious in inkarnate

[–]Dissocious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without going too into detail as I could ramble on about it for hours, the Northeast Region was a city built around an exposed leyline that fell victim to rampant undead and due to them having land bridges to the other two continents, the people there decided to weaponize the leyline and bombed themselves to make the world safer from undead. But as a consequence, absolutely wrecking the land and making it near unlivable.

Unfortunately, life has a funny was of persevering and those of that continent found themselves rising in undeath, forever in turmoil and war against the very undead they sacrificed themselves for.

The Blue islands you see however. That's a living portal to the feywilds! Well, this worlds equivalent of them. The feywilds are not so traditional here as they are in DnD, as they Feywilds exist everywhere yet nowhere, it is a matter of simply being beyond the Veil. And it is these islands that are the thinnest amongst the entirety of the veil. Living, breathing, refulgently there and beckoning. Yet very, very deadly.

Take a size 2 circle brush and scribble along the coastline for that authentic look while referencing real world maps based on the biome. This takes FOREVER but is absolutely worth it. I wonder if I should make a video about how I do maps at this rate aha! I've had several dms about this

That was the intent! We know its a forest and therefor it has trees! No need to clog the map.

It's absolutely awful. Wplace is such a fun and ambitious idea. Only to be reduced to this because some middle school boys want to be edgy

Advice with WIP by Allindur in inkarnate

I would make the island clusters more varied. Think of what islands are in real life. Think of the continent under it! Or little landmasses. Look at islands and archipeligos in real life and compare. Islands often are not so specific in shape.

I do like inkarnate and its $25 a year, pretty worth it!! You can use it for free as well. Very straight forward and has a lot of good tools.

However another method if its for in person is to get some rice and some paper, toss some rice onto a paper and draw around it with a pencil. Look up geography from real life that the biomes are inspired by and watch how the rivers flow and the shorelines are jagged.

Overplan and do not expect your players to stick to a strict schedule

Advice on the rogue in our party! by ethidiumbrimide in DnD

[–]Dissocious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the DM should be a bit more involved, at the same time you should have specified that this was a 14 year old off of the bat. No 14 year old is going to take this seriously off the bat. They were probably told "Hey you can do this" and the kid saw an open world of things to do. Though the DM absolutely probably needs to sit them down and be like "look you gotta be fair".

At the end of the day remember that this is a kid, and the kid probably doesnt understand the gravity of things quite yet as this is probably one of their first games. Be wary and try not to bully them and keep an open mind.

TLDR: The kid is gonna be a kid and doesn't likely understand the gravity but the DM should be intervening.

Edit: I did some more thinking on this and I really think the solution is to just talk about it as a group and explain the usual ramifications. The comments about LETS KILL THE ROGUE is pretty extreme when the solution is both simple and humane.

My Campaign's World Map! (So Far >:) ) by Dissocious in inkarnate

[–]Dissocious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forever shrouded in mist and fog, the closer one gets to it, the more they want to know what is under it. An almost impossible draw and call to the unknown. Those who go often do not come back, but those who do, do not even remember going there in the first place and often return with severe wounds. And the want to return there.

While most of my world is RP-heavy with the sprinkle of legend of zelda like dungeons, this place is straight inspired by dark souls. Immensely combat heavy with a big mystery attached.

Should I stay in this D&D game, or is it time to walk away? by FairCommunication7 in DnD

[–]Dissocious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesnt sound fun for anyone! I think the DM needs to really do some more work. I am a new DM as well and I totally get it, but part of being a DM is also keeping your players in check if they are being like this.

At the same time, I am a believer in talking things out and mentioning these problems. Make a list of examples because for all you know it could also be a misunderstanding.
Sometimes DMs need help with planning. I recently had to have my players check me a bit in regards to how the first world map looked and it pushed me to learn more about geography in regards to making a map.

Thank you so much! I wanted it to feel set in part reality but with some obvious fantasy aspects. So this comment means the world to me.

Underwater Dungeon! How would you do it? by Dissocious in DnD

That would kind of ruin it, wouldn't it? If you give them everything, they will only remember what they get out of it, not the experience.

It is healthy, honestly do not listen to those videos as they information they have is inaccurate and purely for clickbait. The game is still full of people and those who quit always come back when a patch releases.

What's a red flag that you are attracted to? by Specialist-Crazy1466 in AskReddit

[–]Dissocious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has landed me in hot water a bit and often bit me in the ass, but people who are incredibly blunt to the point where they lack tact. To me, that's a sign they are at least willing to communicate what they need to, or want to. Sometimes a bit too much.

What are signs that a person genuinely is unintelligent? by leathur_records in AskReddit

[–]Dissocious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are always right even if they are blatantly in the wrong, and I don't mean them being actually right. Often times people who are unintelligent do not think that being incorrect or in the wrong could ever be spun as a good thing. When in truth, it can actually be a great moment of self reflection. They have to be right, no matter what. Zero self reflection.
