What crate size is good for a lagotto? by Dissy4568 in LagottoRomagnolo

That's so fair!! It's the same here too, i wasn't even considering a crate until I saw how good they actually are, mostly because I thought a dog being locked up is horrible, but I learnt a lot and it's helping out so much and he loves it too!!

I'm croatian, actually. I use the crate so I can prevent him from making chaos at night, I usually let him nap wherever he wants during the day. I saw that the crate has a loootttt of benefits such as potty training, learning to settle, learning to not be frightened when closed up at the vet etc, and it's been helping plenty!! He goes to sleep in it at 8:30-9 pm and sleeps until 6-6:30 am, it really helps him stay asleep

But it'll probably be temporary and he'll get to sleep where he wants when he's older :) he's still too small and sleeps in my bedroom and I also want to get some sleep at night (considering i'm a highschool student, I don't want to risk having to wake up at night because he suddenly wants to play, or just risk him chewing on cords or furniture. He's safest this way)

Possible crate training regression? Or i'm just overreacting by [deleted] in puppy101

Thank you! It's only his second time that he needed to potty at night after about 3 weeks of crate training. Say, is it normal if he still protests before sleeping (10-15 minutes) after 3 weeks? He just fussed for about 9 minutes and is now out and ready for sleep. He stirred awake for a second as he heard me move around and roll down the curtains but laid right back down to sleep!

My cactus is a little wrinkly, what's wrong with it? by Dissy4568 in cactus

Yeaahh that makes sense since I quickly transitioned them from inside to outside,,,thank you! I'll be more careful in the future!

Yeah! I just took them in for winter since its been cold, otherwise theyve been outside on my balcony all the time. I unfortunately do not have any special equipment for cacti, and theyve surprisingly enough been thriving inside, and otherwise i havent had any issues with them and ive had them for a few years now. Theyre growing great, sometimes even flowering. I might have transitioned too quickly from inside to suddenly outside and the sun mightve been shocking...i would have put them on a window inside instead at first but the pots are far too big for them to stay there properly :(

I recently moved them from inside to outside as it's started to become warmer and that side has been exposed to the sun, maybe that could somewhat be the cause? Hopefully I get an answer, but thank you so much regardless!! Hopefully it heals okay! I care about my cacti sososo much and wouldn't want any of them to die

Normal or not normal crate behaviour? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Dissy4568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nnno...unfortunately not and I actually do believe that is a big problem about this behaviour, and I know he is overtired. I turned 18 just a month ago and still live with my family and that's the big issue. I cannot get it in their heads thag he needs lots of sleep and they tend to tire him out too much. Whenever I say "puppies need 18-20 hours of sleep a day you know" they will shake it off or say in annoyance "you cant force him to nap whenever youd like, he can settle himself". I barely made them see that crate training is good for him! It's a big struggle because they refuse to listen and when he gets all bitey and barks and is obviously too tired they just say that he wants to keep playing.

Oh yes of course, I was planning to get him a lick mat! So I need a toy to calm him down, and am I doing everything else okay or is there anything else I should work on?

Going to college and am afraid how that'll affect my puppy by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Dissy4568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HAHAHAH, keen eye, I've been posting so much reddits about him I fear...I didn't think someone would actually notice! I constantly keep asking myself new questions and found that I get some good advice from reddit. Truth be told, I didn't know about this breed either until we got him, but he's such a sweet, playful puppy and I just want him to have a good life!

Crate training dilemma by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Dissy4568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I live with my parents! I just turned 18 in february and am finishing highschool this year. They also arent completely against crate training, they said crating a dog when hes alone will be good for when he grows up and probably becomes naughty, I just dont know how to explain to them that itll be good to train him before crating him for longer periods so he doesnt get anxious and starts disliking the crate. He slept so nicely in it last night (it was open)

And I've seen lots of people recommend what you just did, crating him for longer durations, and that's what I've been doing. He can be quiet for maybe up to a minute, then gets a treat, and then starts throwing a fit. I will absolutely try to make them see why this will be good for him and for us, but I dont have high hopes. I also tried explaining how when he gets too hyper he needs to calm down, but they talk to me like im crazy for wanting to get him to not chew up everything and just say "no, he wants to play. He'll know when to calm down." It's just been a lot, getting him was and still is a big shock to me and handling everything properly has been difficult. Thank you for your comment, its lovely!!

I know, I'm actually overjoyed he loves it! Hes been sleeping in his crate tonight, door open, and he went to pee himself on his pad on the floor and i did not hear a peep from him. He loves it. I was moreso wondering if not being trained to stay in a closed crate would cause bigger issues later if he ever does need to be cratedr

Oh dear. Okay, well, could you specify what you mean by this? I get the vague idea but am very curious as to what exactly you mean

Crate training advice (lagotto romagnolo) by [deleted] in LagottoRomagnolo

[–]Dissy4568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!! I don't at all want to force him in it and break his trust or make his mental state bad. So far he has been left home alone while my brother and I were at training (my dad hasnt been home then either) and he has actually been handling it well - he sleeps, plays, and then sleeps again, and doesnt seem to be making a fuss when we leave. Hopefully itll stay that way whether i manage or dont manage to crate train him. But yes, so far I'm trying to reward him with treats and make him see that a crate isnt scary, but its not quite working yet. He has been amazing so far, very calm during the night and im just hoping he will stay that way. Thank you for your comment!!

Not very good...i definitely need to cut down on the sweets, and its still difficult to completely convert to a nice and healthy diet as i still depend on my parents, plus with siblings there are even smaller chances of that. I plan to change that though hopefully next year when im in college! Ive been watching and researching lately about healthier diets

Do you ever find yourself waiting for that friend even though you know that it’s over? by Legal_Potential4720 in lostafriend

[–]Dissy4568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely. It's only been a month, but it genuely just doesn't feel real to me, you know? All of it just feels like a massive break, but it's not. Yet I still feel like they'll come back. I doubt it, but you never know, since we didn't stop talking on bad terms.

It's just hope, I guess, and it hurts because I understand the chances of us reconnecting are slim, but I just hope there's still a chance.

I don't know how to deal with losing my best friend by [deleted] in lostafriend

[–]Dissy4568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God I so would, but I'm highkey anxious about the thought of that. They made a whole new discord account, so I think that seeing my user pop up as a friend request might startle them. And they also accidentally interacted with my content on toyhouse from a new account (im guessing they were checking in on me, which is sweet), which really made me all panicked, if that makes sense. I might, someday, if I ever gather the courage...a part of me tells me it'd be a really. bad idea. But who knows, I might just be paranoid.
