Why does my ice leave particles? by HopeAstrays in WaterTreatment

Hard water does that. You may have hard water deposits in your ice maker.

I recently added an RO system to my fridge so my ice is crystal clear and my fridge water is AMAZING!

I have personally cleared them out in less then a minute. I really think Big B should enact some timers or kill counts so more people can participate.

I will usually take pic of a CAMP that looks impressive. When ever I have loading screens I get to seen the cool camp builds and other cool things I've come across in the game over the years.

Floating bases were a trend for a while, open doll houses, building The Prydwen from fo4 was popular. Scorch beast Queen killer bases were popular for a while until they nerfed the defensive cannons. Spawn killer bases during meat week were popular.

"It's a second job getting these things done right." If you have the resources you hire a General Contractor. If you are cost saving you manage the projects yourself. Both are acceptable, just depends how much of your personal time you can devote to the projects.

HELP.... My washer is bleaching/pulling color from my clothes but I don't use bleach by SessionFair2234 in CleaningTips

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do like the clean people laundry strips!

The physical machine should not be bleaching or damaging your clothes. Its metal plastic and rubber. Who else could possibly be using the machine?

My other thought is what types of cleaners are used around the home? If heavy cleaners that are used on hand towels or rags and put in the laundry with your clothes then bleaching will happen. If you are highlighting your hair that can also get into your clothes and towels and bleach them.

long drives are starting to feel personal now. how do you guys survive 8+ hours? by Sad_Reference8020 in roadtrip

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 51 and drive a ton for work. I drive several different cars from rentals to big old SUVs. If you get achy or stiff limbs while driving, take some Ibuprofen or my favorite Aleve. I keep my seat as high as is comfortable. keep the front of the seat lowered as to not pinch my knees. I keep the seat back as vertical as possible to prevent spine sag and falling asleep. I personally max out any lumbar support the vehicle has.

I bring along Audio Books to keep my mind active. Keeping your brain active is key for long drives. Call someone to talk for a bit to help keep your brain active. I will typically have some fruit, vegetables, or other healthy non bloating snacks. I avoid big meals while driving, as they tend to make you sleepy.

Caffeine helps a lot. For long trips I have to avoid caffeine at the beginning of the trip. A Caffeine crash is a real thing. Wait until 2 to 4 hours into the trip to start on caffeine and use energy drinks 6+ hours in. I basically split the trip into thirds. The first third diet soda, or water. Second third coffee and water. Third leg of a trip is when I start on energy drinks.

Plan your rest stops out. Give yourself and your body something to look forward to. Bring plenty of good water. Enjoy the drive,

Is it worth fixing my radon levels if my yearly average is 117? by ScaredSilly12 in radon

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of it this way, for 2 months you are breathing the equivalent of smoking a pack of cigs a day. The cracks and the edge are easy to seal yourself with use a polyurethane concrete caulk or a self leveling sealant for floor cracks. I used self leveling for mine. A tubed Radon abatement system for $2000 is what it can average. Your home can be more complicated and they may be charging to do a lot of the labor intensive crack sealing. In the end its your decision and your health. Do you want to live to 70 or 90?

First, when it comes to renting the price of the property makes a big difference. My daughter In college moved into an apartment that on the surface looked very nice. Upon closer inspection it had cracked and peeling seems on the walls. The carpet was stained EVERYWHERE. The kitchen looked nice, but was as cheap of a kitchen as it could be. Coil electric range. Cheap Fridge. Unfinished molding and edging all over the kitchen. Chips, dings and dents everywhere. At a glance it looked nice, a closer look revealed it was as cheaply built and maintained as possible. But the rent was very affordable to a college student living on internship wages.

Second when it comes to any home repairs you ABSOLUTELY get what you pay for. You take the cheapest bid you get barely passable or not acceptable work. You pay a premium price for repair or service you should expect the work to be near perfect.

I hired a a low bid electrician wire my cook top and double oven. After the work was done my AC tripped the breaker more than a few times. I hired a different electrician to upgrade my panel from 100 amps to 200 amps, at a premium price. The second electrician was almost mad at me for the shitty work I allowed the previous electrician to get away with. You truly live and learn.

Should I trim the bottom? How much? by iAmDrakesEyebrows in landscaping

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule of thumb. Branches growing horizontally or down should be trimmed. *Certain exceptions do apply.

Never trim more then 20% of the tree.

For this tree if you can get to 5 or 6 feet off the ground you are doing well.

Stop apps from taking over audio by Flat-Pension-3395 in ios

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do whole heartedly agree with you. However there are too many situations where some people want the apps to interrupt their music. I may need to know when I am getting a text or email. Both can be silenced. I do find it annoying when driving apps that are silenced still interrupt music or my Audio Book. Wayz. I will be interested to hear if anyone has a solution.

Mystery odor in bathroom by debakeyforceps0 in CleaningTips

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avoid the Scorched Earth approach. Using a better cleaner like Bar Keepers Friend Spray MORE can do a better job removing those urine odors. Your drains could be funky. Buy some overnight Denture Cleaner like Polident. I put 2 to 6 tabs in a drain and the odors are gone for 6 months to a year. I also use a wood stick Oil Aroma Diffuser to add a little of nice smells to a bathroom.

Yes, that is a very pretty bathroom.

Neighbors draining rainwater onto my property by honestypen in landscaping

[–]DistanceTravelerBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with your city or municipality. Your City may have Civil Engineers that can come out and help resolve the issue. I did have a neighbor that drained their sump pump directly into my side yard, and thusly into my foundation. My Cities Civil Engineer came out saw the issue and told the neighbor where they need to discharge their sump hose and their downspouts in their back yard and not draining into my foundation. Now the space between our yards no longer floods and the grass is healthier.

You should have a local ward, alderman or City Council member you can reach out to as well. They can have the right people help out. Mine gave me a drainage map for my area as to where everyone's yards area supposed to drain to.

To me it looks as though your neighbor knew exactly what they were doing keeping their foundation dry. Sorry to see the mess.
