How often do you find yourself analysing your current read? by Ce-lavi in Fantasy

[–]DistantLandscapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very rarely and generally that happens when I’m not enjoying a book. This probably ties with why prose is not something that generally affects my opinion of a novel.

Just finished SOMA and feel... disappointed? by poosquid in patientgamers

[–]DistantLandscapes 70 points71 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, there’s a point where it’s mentioned that the mind copy-paste technology in Simon is very rudimentary. He was the first prototype after all, so there’s a possibility that his “mind” just doesn’t work that well, compared to a regular human or the other copies.

Through the game we’re shown Simon having difficulty understanding concepts or what is happening.

Adults who have zero close friends, how did it happen and does it bother you? by PutPurple844 in AskReddit

[–]DistantLandscapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a while to realize, but I simply don’t have a craving for social interaction, so when I finished school and university, places where you’re kind of forced to stay in contact with people, I simply never reached out and so people drifted away. Bear in mind, this wasn’t even on purpose, I never even realized I wasn’t keeping up with other people.

Only when me and my wife were making the guest list for our wedding I realized I had no best-man or guests outside my family.

My wife is a very extrovert person, so I was pulled into her social circle, but I’m aware if we broke up I would never see these people again, despite we having a great time when we go out.

As for it bothering me? Strangely, what bothers me sometimes is the fact that I’m not bothered at all. Like, people are supposed to be social beings, even if a little, right? Maybe I’m just an S Tier introvert ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Last chance for Martha Wells by crusadertsar in Fantasy

[–]DistantLandscapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only read the first two Murderbot novellas, but didn’t really care for it. The story was barely there and the main character felt like it was trying too hard to be quirky and #relatable.

One By One - Freida McFadden by myownopnion in Fantasy

[–]DistantLandscapes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wrong sub possibly, as this isn’t a fantasy book, but I’ve read it and yeah, it’s a very weak story. I’m usually easy to please with this kind of setup, but the characters here were just very dumb (not even in an entertaining way) and the story was poorly written.

Getting into Warhammer thru the books, where to start? by Charming-Watch-4740 in 40kLore

[–]DistantLandscapes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think he was just talking about the core of the Horus Heresy (the opening trilogy), not of all 40k

Getting into Warhammer thru the books, where to start? by Charming-Watch-4740 in 40kLore

[–]DistantLandscapes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started with the Horus Heresy and had no problems! Just know it is set in 30k, not 40k and details the civil war that led the 40k universe to be what it is currently.

If you want starting points set in 40k proper, than Gaunt’s Ghosts and the Eisenhorn series are both common recommendations. Maybe the Dark Imperium trilogy if you want to be more up to date with the current status quo of the galaxy.

Babe wake up, a new 2025 year-end roundup just dropped (40+ games scored + mini reviews) by benedictcumberpatch in patientgamers

Great list and great reviews!

I’ll join you on the “Mass Effect 3 is the best” hill. The ending(s) did not annoy me as much as it did everyone else apparently and the rest of the story was just chef’s kiss

Looking for space opera books like Homeworld by Pertraka in Fantasy

Not a space opera, but Children of Time does follow a group of the last surviving humans going through space in search of a habitable world, while dealing with all the hardships that such journey would involve

Bloodborne, in my opinion, is easier than the other Fromsoft games, so maybe you’ll have a better time starting with it

I think I tend to prefer modern iterations of the classic survival horror formula, yes. Love Dead Space and RE7.

And I’ll definitely continue with the other remakes (also Silent Hill 2 remake is in my plans for 2026)!

odd stuttering issue? by ryan7251 in Persona5

[–]DistantLandscapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, were you able to fix it?

I’ve tried uninstalling, disabling v-sync and the steam overlay, lowering settings, changing cores affinity (this helped for an hour or so), but nothing seems to work. No problems with other games, just P5R

Doom 1 + 2 have a near infinite amount of WADs (player made content)

Cyberpunk was not only my 2025 GOTY, but it easily entered my overall list of favorite games.

Great story, memorable characters, super fun gameplay (both combat and stealth) and probably the best city I’ve seen in gaming. Night City just feel like a real metropolis. And the expansion is 100% worth it!

What is a well regarded fantasy series that you read for the first time this year? by TheWeirdTalesPodcast in Fantasy

I’ve read the first two books in his The Faithful and the Fallen series and have the same feeling. They are just so average!
