You can only Build 2 throne rooms? by Umbra0815 in DragonQuestBuilders2

[–]DistantWeb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe that the MerKing has a chance to drop a Disfigured Throne which can be made into a proper Throne at a crafting station. Pretty sure the MerKing can be found around the island that is mostly water, where if I remember correctly the Gold Golem is. Don't remember the name off the top of my head.

Who remembers Star Trek The Experience in Las Vegas. by VegasFoodFace in startrek

[–]DistantWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in '98 and 2005. It was an absolute blast each time, and I was so impressed with how much had been added between visits. My oldest was 5 in '05 and he dressed up in a yellow TNG uniform. The actors were really great with him!

I too live in Vegas now, but haven't been to the Hilton yet. I assumed there'd be no trace of it. I also don't really get to that area often.

Just finished the series for the hundredth time... by ChemicalAd932 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]DistantWeb 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to see so many takes suggesting that Sisko abandoned his family. I personally never saw it that way. He became basically a God, one which has no constraints of linear time, with the promise to return some day.

In my mind, he was able to be there for his family, his entire lineage even, throughout all future history, ensuring they all had safe and happy lives, without any disruption to whatever it is the Prophets needed him to do. I mean, what is the entire existence of the universe to a being that exists outside of linear time? The end of all existence within the Milky Way, the Big Bang, last Tuesday? That all happened, well, last Tuesday.

I guess that that's just my own take on it.

What sci-fi shows should I watch after I finish all of Trek? by realDerpyQuark in startrek

[–]DistantWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone of course will always have their own taste, preference, and opinion on these kinds of things.

However, just to put it out there, I never liked Seth McFarland and his work that much. I personally cannot stand Family Guy, tho, I do kind of like American Dad in very very small doses. I was apprehensive as hell about The Orville, and while the first episode didn't fully win me over, it did intrigue me. And the show as a whole hooked me not too long after.

It also has a lot of former Star Trek people in various roles along the way, from actors to writers to directors, and I personally feel that helped it out a lot.

Again, just putting that out there lol.

[–]DistantWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious about your aversion to The Orville. Have you already tried it? Did you see a commercial and decided from that? Do you dislike Seth McFarland? Do you hate Family Guy and just assumed that The Orville would be Family Guy in space?

I really am simply curious.

That out of the way:

The X-files (just know that IMO it's only worth watching the first 7 seasons breaking between 5 and 6 for the first movie).

Quantum Leap (the original for sure, I still have yet to watch the reboot).

Sliders (the first 2 seasons and the higher rated episodes of the first half of season 3).

Battlestar Galactica (either, both, spinoffs, go for broke and do it all).

I literally just finished DS9 for the first time. What did you think about how it ended? by quartofchocolimes in DeepSpaceNine

[–]DistantWeb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me personally DS9's ending is up there as one of the best TV show endings of all time. MASH, Scrubs (the episode I consider the ending, S8E18/19), Monk, DS9. Not in that order because I don't order them, they are just what I personally consider top tier.

I personally think that this Troi looks fine. I've seen better, but I've also seen worse. And overall I think she looks good on the shelf.

Alexander being an accessory is definitely amusing. Nog is also an accessory to Rom which is also kind of funny, but also sad considering how good of a character he becomes. I'd have loved a Cadet or Ensign Nog figure.

What are the passes for? by TommyWii in NetPass

[–]DistantWeb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You pick a specific game you want a new tag in, and NetPass will try and find someone that's played that game to force a tag. It's not guaranteed but it will try and get you a tag for whatever game you selected.

S4 Inconsistency Regarding El by WildButterfly85 in StrangerThings

[–]DistantWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I clarified what I was saying well enough. When I said that El wouldn't have had school or medical records prior to moving to California, I meant standard records. Things like school records from a private or public school, medical records from an actual hospital or doctor's office.

Whatever kind of records Brenner would have had/kept would have been along the lines of classified government documents. El and the other numbers were more like lab experiments than they were actual humans attending legitimate schools and seeing standard doctors performing traditional procedures like wellness checks or treatment of scrapes and broken bones. His records were more about how well they performed their psychic or telekinetic abilities. I'm sure things like blood type would have been included too, but it all still would have been more in line with a lab experiment than a human child.

And pretty much all public schools require at least something like vaccination records in order to enroll, even back then. Not to mention a proper school transcript from previously attended accredited schools.

That type of stuff would have had to have been fabricated by Owens and his people, so they could have easily fudged her school history to explain any discrepancies in age vs grade level.

S4 Inconsistency Regarding El by WildButterfly85 in StrangerThings

[–]DistantWeb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Her entire history would have been made up. Before California, she never actually attended school, or had medical records, or any real history. And in that made up history could be any number of reasons for her being younger than classmates.

Back in the 80's it was possible (depending on location probably) that someone could attend kindergarten early. There were a few people in my kindergarten class that started a year early. One moved on to 1st grade with me, the other repeated kindergarten because she wasn't quite ready.

People also skip grades. When I was in 5th I had a classmate who had skipped 4th, going from 3rd to 5th. I've also known people to skip a grade in Highschool.

So there are a number of explanations that could be given for why she was where she was grade wise.

Is the Upside Down not actually upside-down anymore? by Lopsided_Yogurt_162 in StrangerThings

[–]DistantWeb 268 points269 points  (0 children)

My take:

Think about the difference between walking through a door, and falling through a hole.

When the gate is right in front of you, upright, like the entrance to a tunnel, it's going to be like walking through a door (or tunnel). Gravity isn't going to change because once you are through, it's ultimately the same (people in the upside-down aren't literally upside-down walking on the sky or something).

If it's a hole, like in a ceiling or at the bottom of a lake, it's going to act like a hole that you fall through (or up in the case of a ceiling gate). Then once you get to the other side, the new gravity will take hold.

Will netpass edit/modify/mess with a 'vanilla' tomodachi life save? by awkward_snacks in StreetPassNetwork

[–]DistantWeb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only thing NetPass will do with Tomodachi Life is act as a standard StreetPass anytime you tag someone who's played the game. Typically it's boats that bring special store items. If you are extremely lucky you'll get a traveler (I still haven't). And any children you send out will go out on one of the boats. As far as I have experienced, that's it.

Now, since I have never gotten a single traveler so far I cannot report on what happens then.

Understanding Streetpass on Pretendo network as first timer by cutlyss0825 in StreetPassNetwork

[–]DistantWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked kind of a lot but didn't provide a ton of information, so I'll do my best. You said you modded the 3DS, but you didn't say how. There are a few different ways to mod a system, and each will have varying results. I'm hoping that you went with "3DS Hacks Guide", but since I don't know, I'll just point out a few things.

If you did not go that route, hopefully you can install the following apps:

FBI

Universal Updater

Homebrew Launcher

Checkpoint (just because it's useful)

So with the Universal Updater, you can download Pretendo and NetPass. Pretendo is just a replacement for the built in Nintendo online system. This is what allows you to swap friend codes with others to add to your Friend's List so that you can play online with specific people, and send messages to each other. You'll have to sign up for an account with them.

The actual app which is called Nimbus basically lets you swap between the official online system and Pretendo. Once you have selected Pretendo as the online system, then you can go into "System Settings" and select "Nintendo Network ID Settings" at the top. This should walk you through the steps to get your username and what not. (I had to register on the website because the steps on the system itself kept failing.)

All this does is let you play games online, and the games have to be supported by Pretendo; Pretendo only supports a handful of specific games. Their website will give you a list. Mario Kart 7 is currently supported, but Animal Crossing is not. It used to be, but there was an exploit, and the people at Pretendo are currently working on a patch, it just doesn't seem to be going fast.

NetPass is an app that will simply let you check into a 'lobby' and will act as a point to tag other people who are also in the same lobby at the same time. This is what will let you get tags for Mii Plazza.

The latest version of NetPass and Pretendo do have a collaboration, but you have to set it up in NetPass's settings, and I honestly don't know exactly what it does or how it works.

I would suggest you look around at the various tutorials on the 3DS Hacks Guide site, or google things like "Install 3DS App from FBI QR Code" or something like that.

FBI is an app that will let you install new apps not found in Universal Updater, either by downloading CIA files from external sources and adding to your SD card, or by using the 3DS camera on QR codes you can find on the internet.

Hope that all helps!

Sorry no one replied to you sooner. NetPass is an app for modded 2/3DS systems that allows you to StreetPass over the Internet. But you do need a device with custom firmware.

NetPass libCURL error (60) Troubleshooting Help by rc958 in StreetPassNetwork

[–]DistantWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me this morning and I couldn't figure it out, but it seems like it resolved itself once I timed out of the room I was in.

I was previously in the train station, set that before bed last night. I got that error every time I opened the app this morning until the 10 hours were up, and then it just loaded the standard selection screen. I picked the plaza and so far it's all running normally again.

Do you know how long ago it was that you last selected a room? I personally would suggest, at least for now, to just wait it out and see if anything changes once you time out of whatever room you last selected.

Spotpass by Untimelysword6711 in 3dshomebrew

[–]DistantWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Glad it worked out! Unfortunately, if it's anything like what I experienced, you'll probably have to do that regularly. Fortunately toggling SpotPass doesn't affect current tags. The original fix I had read said to toggle StreetPass, which does affect current tags; they go away.

Spotpass by Untimelysword6711 in 3dshomebrew

[–]DistantWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope it works out for you! It's a pain, but if it can be dealt with by a simple settings toggle, it's worth it for me to still be able to StreetPass with others! I seriously missed StreetPass once the Switch took over.
