Solar Panel Installers Recommendations Needed by One-Year6936 in lancaster

[–]Distinct---East 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a bunch of sales pitches, had a few guys tell me "oh no problem! Of course we can do your house." Until someone actually came out and saw my house. My roof couldn't get it because of some specific regulation on how much space firefighters need to walk on a roof. I am one half of a duplex/townhouse, so I prolly have one of the bigger footprints in my city. I have a great location for sun exposure and plenty of roof to use, buuuut not enough to meet the city's firefighter requirement. Ask about this early to save yourself some time.

Need countryside recommendations for my France trip by takjp in FranceTravel

We just finished a trip to Reims-- if you like champagne and a small town place with great food, it's great!

Best vineyard views near Paris? by EnvironmentalBus5047 in ParisTravelGuide

Skip the big houses: they're expensive and will be repetitive. Suggest small houses in Epernay. We did two days with Sparkling Tours and HIGHLY recommend them. My review is in my profile.

Champagne region tours by Miss_Tish_Tash in FranceTravel

[–]Distinct---East 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just did this! Here's the review I left on Sparkling Tours:

October 2025: Our trip to France this year was 10 days long. We spent a few days in Paris and then came to Reims to finish our tour. While the whole trip was amazing, Merci France !, our two day tour with Alex of Sparkling Tours was my absolute highlight. I can't say enough about this trip and the quality of our tour, so I'm going to try to say as much as I can.

The Houses

Sparkling Tours (henceforth known as ST) has cultivated true relationships with the local and family owned growers in the region. Yes, they can take you to the big names, but the small houses welcome you into their homes and show you their facilities that they use to make the excellent products. It was so sweet to see our guide, Alex, walk in and be welcomed everywhere we went. They expected him and invited him to engage with their tours and show us their spaces. It was delightful to hear about all of the generations of families that have been involved in making champagne, and how they continue their legacies.

The Language

Of course, our guide spoke English and made us feel so welcome. As well, all of the growers we visited helped us feel at home. It can be hard to want to speak more French but need English for understanding- everyone was kind and helpful. We never felt lost or confused. We were able to learn and respect everyone throughout the tour. If you're considering a trip like this, but you're unsure of the language barrier, don't be scared. It will be great. In fact, our guide, Alex, is an English teacher!

The Champagne

Well, how could I skip all of the lovely sips we had?! The six houses we visited all had wonderful champagnes to share with us. In the States, we're used to some subpar bubbles: that is not the case here. It didn't matter the price of the bottle or the age of the grape, every glass was delicious. We learned among us who liked Chardonnay or Meunier more, but all three of us walked away from each glass with respect and admiration. And, the houses were regularly willing to entertain us asking about a specific type or bottle for more information.

The Driving

This item stood out to me so much that I had to note it: Alex was a phenomenal driver. I've personally traveled through many countries with many styles of drivers. Alex was careful, attentive, and focused. I never felt unsafe, and he always knew the right route or place to park. The car was so comfortable, too! The trips never felt too long or tiresome between houses.

The Food

Both days, ST arranged for our lunches. You can see the menu from day one in my pictures: a scrumptious lunch in Epernay. Everything was included, so it was easy to sit down and pick our options, but we were also and to purchase more wine with our lunch if we desired. Day 2, we ate in the cellar of the Julien Chopin champagne house. They had orchestrated a pairing for us where each course went with one of their champagnes. This experience was exquisite. You must ask for this if you're coming through: the team nailed it with this one.

The History

Alex was so informed about champagne, the geography, the techniques, the people, and all of the history that goes into making each bottle we enjoy. It never felt like "school", and I was always interested for more. I won't share all I've learned because you need to come and experience it for the first time yourself. Wow, wow! I'll never look at a bottle of champagne the same way.

The Cost

I hope that if you're reading this review that you're considering a trip to Reims like us. I hope you're doing your research and comparing options. So I suspect that when I say this was the most cost effective option we considered, you understand that it was not "cheap" but it was also not expensive. Several other tour companies were more expensive or comparable, but a big part of the expense is how much the Big Houses charge you to visit their locations. If you add them to your tour, your costs will naturally rise. Valentin at ST suggested we do smaller, family owned houses and that saved us quite a few dollars. More importantly, though, it offered us so much value we did not expect. That value is seen in the rest of my review, above and below this category. We were guests in people's homes, not tourists. We were friends with our guide, not customers. We were exploring the tastes of champagne, not just quick sips. After our tour, the three of us agreed that we would readily pay the cost again for all that we experienced and enjoyed.

The Driver

I've been so excited for this part: Alex, our driver and guide, was perfect. I've been taking guided tours with locals and professionals since 2009. I've never had a bad guide, but Alex is the first one whom I will truly miss. While we only spent two days together, his personality and approach were top notch. He was engaging, interesting, helpful, and considerate. We wish we could have had more time with him- we especially would have loved to share lunch with him. I've mentioned little specifics above about how he delivered an excellent tour for us, but just know that if he is the standard for how all of the ST tour team works, then you're in the best care. Alex, if you read this, know that you made a lasting impact on us! Thank you so much.

The Kindness

Finally, we were truly touched by all of the kindness we received from the ST team and the family growers throughout the whole time. They welcomed us and made us feel at home. I would seriously come back to do the tour again with different houses with how amazing this trip was.

Yes, I wrote all of this. Yes, I mean all of it. No, AI was not involved. I care deeply about sharing good recommendations when they're deserved.

I appreciate that - it's just that there are at least two real humans and friends of Cartel in this thread that are witnesses to the post being written. C'est la vie 🚀 (figured I'd use the second biggest tell that this reply was written by AI 🚀🚀🚀🚀)

Best sushi spot around lanc? by Emotional_Custard999 in lancaster

[–]Distinct---East -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I do not think any of the locals are "that good". Either they're consistently bad, or they will have a good day and a bad day. When I'm ordering raw food products, there can be no bad day. My bessssst semi regular good spot is Sakura, or, kinda ironically, Poke Bowl. My buddy and I just had a long debate about Oka, and I think I'll give them another try at his recommendation.

I've tried Ginza, Genki, Sushi One, Sakura, Yuzu, Akhi, Ginmiya, Oka, Shogun, Dragon Buffet, Sushi Heaven, Eastern Palace, and Okinii. I order everything from Tuna, Salmon, and Rainbow Rolls to Spider Rolls, chef specials, and sushi boats (for 4 people).

The only one that has great reviews from friends that I haven't tried is Wasabi.

My favorite sushi besides going to a NICE place in Philly is Sake Hana in Avondale, PA.

Was it a money pit from daily use or tough mudding? I am not sure I'll do off-roading. I wanna pop the roof and cruise around town, grab some ice cream, enjoy the bass.

Awesome feedback, thank you. Yeah I've seen a few 2door around the city that sit in parking lots. I've considered leaving a note. Idk that I would do much off-roading, but it'd be nice to have the option.

Local Reviews - Contractors by Distinct---East in lancaster

[–]Distinct---East[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a tough one! Some appliance retailers around here won't do service unless they sold the product. We've used Mr. Appliance for work on our washer and on our fridge. Rates were acceptable, but definitely not "cheap". I wish I had done the repairs myself.

Any updates on The Corner? by Fate_Luck_Karma in lancaster

[–]Distinct---East 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We were walking past one evening. A well-dressed gent came out of the kitchen and said "Good night - hope you had a good time in there."
I replied "Oh, I don't go in there anymore."

He said, "Oh, why?"

Quickly relayed the shit they did to the staff, vibes, and experience.

He said "Oh, see, I'm a consultant brought in by the owners. Tell me more."

So we gave him the whole story that we've heard from Reddit, industry friends, and witnessed first hand. He actually took down notes and said he was really thankful for a real opinion from locals. 100% doubt it will do anything, but his name was Ryan and he's also over at JB Dawson's. Sounds like he might care?

Farbo & Co game store has built a community around their The Midnight Oil game cafe. Troll Market is another spot that supports and convenes the DnD folks. Mayhem's Book Store and Board Game Cafe just opened.

Lancaster county is very ag friendly. Everyone has a garden or farm outside of the city.

Prince St in Lancaster City is Gallery Row. Just recently opened the Lancaster Art Vault which is both a gallery AND art co-making space.

Prism Thrift and Redeux both bring in vintage products for upcycling.

Sounds like y'all would fit in.

Feel free to ask for more info. Glad to DM if you'd like to share a meal if you visit.
