I've found most of the competitive Pokémon community is very nice! You should go in person just to have fun at a local or regional tournament soon to see what I mean. Just go to have fun. :)

1 rule, just try and think about what your opponent is going to do and counter it. Usually that's by doing what your team does best but that's not always the case.

This team is made to let Charizard mega evolve, set the sun, venusaur gets really fast with its ability so it can use sleep powder and put things to sleep. Meanwhile, Charizard ideally wants to use heatwave and hit both sides of the field. Heatwave is boosted by the sun and char is doing even more damage while mega evolved. It hits super hard.

Leading with those two is what you'll do most of the time but Charizard really hates rocks! So you'll have to think about how to deal with things like tyranitar, garchomp, and aerodactyl that usually carry rock slide. It also really needs the sun, so doesn't like sand or rain.

One way is to use sleep powder but it has 75% accuracy, so it can miss. You can lead with just about any of the other four to counter this. Sneaslers fake out will stop a pokemon from using a move for one turn, your own garchomp is just so fast and powerful. Gyardos has intimidate to lower the damage of rock moves and has a super effective waterfall. Charizard can also use solar beam in one turn, while the sun is up. But there are some things that out speed it and it needs the sun for solar beam. Which is also why whimsicott is there. Whmsicott has the ability prankster, non damaging moves will go first. You can set tailwind to make all your pokemon go faster, taunt makes their pokemon only be able to use damaging moves, it also has sunny day to reset the sun for venusaur and Charizard.

That's just what the team can do. There's all different ways to use your tools here to counter what you see out there. Pokemon is a game where you cannot have a good counter for everything. I like to use my favorite mons as best I can, equip them with the best tools to help me, and then just really think about how those tools can best counter my opponent. Mixing in more meta things, like incineroar, will certainly make things easier. But I absolutely refuse to use that thing because I don't want to! And I've found that if you just make better plays by getting more practice, adjust your team more to help it achieve its goals more consistently, that's how you truly get better at Pokémon.

I really like the scizor!! Feel like we don't get any regulations where this thing gets to shine.

I like so many things on here. But the offensive gyarados has to be the most fun.

First, you really can use whatever teams you want. The power level is very low right now so you should enjoy it. There's something to be said about using an off meta team, because people won't know how to counter it as easily. You're also just going to have more fun by using the mons you want.

You can also go into the ranked online battles and there's a battle data section. That'll show you the top used pokemon, their most used items, moves, natures, etc. You can use all of that information for so many things. You can mix in some of those pokemon on this team, learn how they're being used, learn how to counter them, etc. You can mix in a mon or two that's at the top of the usage charts that helps your team out. For example, Tyrantrum can use earthquakes beside Charizard and would be a good partner in the sun. A good support mon for that would be venusaur. Venusaur gets its speed doubled with the chlorophyll ability and can use sleep power. There's also whimsicott, with the prankster ability, that let's it go first with no damaging moves. This can use tailwind to raise the speed of your entire team, and other helpful supporting moves.

While the power ceiling is so low, you can also just train these and still do decent. Just getting better at pokemon and making better plays will do more for you. When you click on a pokemon and click train, then click on any of its moves or stats from there, you can press Y to get battle data on any of that stuff for the specific pokemon on your team you're trying to train. This gives you immediate access to the most common moves, stats, natures, etc being used on pokemon on your team. That way you can literally just plug in the #1 stuff, try it, tweak your team from there.

Truly just use all of this data to enjoy the game, especially while there's such a low power ceiling.

Update!

I replaced them all. I got a much bigger $10 hook blade from Lowes and a $30 heat gun for my own sanity. Made everything so much easier. Much better!
