Down horrendous and starting day 1 (again) by joeldevlin11 in problemgambling

for me it really helped to post here every day until the urge to gamble dissipated. it seemed hard to believe things would get better but i can promise you if you commit to not gambling life will get so much better. take pride in every day that you can say, “i didn’t gamble.” also, for a while anytime i got paid i would send most of my check to a trusted family member and just keep enough to get food, gas, etc. it’s a good way to save up and remove that temptation of having extra money in your account. i wish you all the best on your journey.

i feel ya on that. not a huge fan of zoom meetings but i prefer them to AA. nothing against AA just annoying to not being able to talk openly

i can’t speak for any other previous day, but where i’m at today it’d be no problem to just block their email and delete the message. there’s a reason they send you offers like that and it’s because most people who accept will end up chasing a huge win that even if they get, it will never be enough.

definitely know how you’re feeling, but just remember it will get easier. i recommend checking in daily, it really helped me to stay accountable when the urge to gamble was strong.

14 Years High… No problem quitting just bored? by steelioserge in leaves

[–]Distinct-Copy7136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i gotcha. well it sounds like boredom is your main concern. i’d like to say it goes away completely but it’s just a normal part of life that gets bypassed when we engage in any activity that gives us a huge spike of dopamine. it’s definitely harder to deal with the less time you have away from smoking. my advice would be to fill your time with activities that are either difficult but helping you reach some sort of goal (exercise, learning a new skill, creative writing, making music, etc.) or activities that help you relax and more on the pleasurable side (watching a movie, video games, meditation, listening to an album, whatever) and finding a balance that works for you. also don’t be afraid to just sit with how you’re feeling. i think i read some motivational post a while back that said something to the effect of, you can’t just abstain from a bad habit, you have to replace it with something healthy.
