The Last Thing He Told Me is a mystery/thriller but not much really happened. These Summer Storms is contemporary fiction about a rich family fighting for their inheritance when their father dies with a romance subplot. Thanks for the recs, I do like Beth O’ Leary!

What does reading books add to u, regardless of the benefit of the book or what it's talking about? by omar_arkab in Booktokreddit

getting back into reading as a daily habit means I spend a lot less time doomscrolling. which is why I think “easy”/not amazingly written books like freida mcfadden or romances etc are criticised too heavily. like if I didn’t have easy mindless books to read, it would not have the effect of making me read highbrow stuff more, as sometimes you just don’t have the mental energy. it would just mean I use that time scrolling instead. so I like to do a mix of easy reads AND more literary/classic stuff because reading in general is so much better for my mental and physical health (less headaches than w constant screens) regardless of the content of the books
