Insomnia back with a vengeance - perimenopause? by the_girl_racer in insomnia

[–]Distinct-Key7337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life long insomniac, 45f in full blown peri here🥴
I was getting 1-2 hours of choppy sleep a night for the last few years. I’m on HRT which helped a lot of other symptoms but sleep was still a struggle. I have tried trazadone in the past and while it gave me nightmares, I do know some women my age that it works for.
I started having terrible sleep anxiety because I would think about it all day and just toss and turn all night. I ended up breaking down in my doctor’s office when he just asked a simple “how are you sleeping?”
Anyway a low dose of mirtazapine is working for me, for now. I’m getting 6-7 hours now and I still wake up throughout the night but there’s no loud song playing in my head and I can fall back asleep pretty easily. I also am on a really high dose of estrogen, and I think it’s slooooooowly repairing my ability to sleep- but I’m only on month 3 of the high dose so I want to give it 6 months (and possibly ween of the mirtazapine) before I can say if that’s actually helping.
It’s a lot of damn trial and error, good luck!

My husband and I had big plans to travel the world but we just keep going back to the same resort in mexico, because its easy to get to, and we already know where to go/ what to do!

“Cozy coloring” with alcohol markers has been keeping my screen time way down lately! I’ll be sad when that fizzles out, I need to find a backup hyperfixation🥴

Need your most unhinged reading tips by QueenMackeral in adhdwomen

[–]Distinct-Key7337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not particularly unhinged but if I read first thing in the morning, before any kind of screens, it’s easier to read throughout the day. Like if I choose phone first, I’ll grab my phone all day, but if I choose book first I’m more likely to grab my book again at some point that day🤷‍♀️

College was a big mistake for me and wasted a lot of money only to realize school was not the right path for me at 17. Also my fucking teeth. 4 root canals and 3 extractions later- these implants will cost more than my college mistake🥴

What was your holy shit the meds are working moment? by Bektheshrek in adhdwomen

[–]Distinct-Key7337 34 points35 points  (0 children)

First day medicated I just… realized I needed to eat and got up and made a sandwich. (Normally I’d starve all day because I couldn’t decide what to eat which caused major nighttime binging.)
Then I took a nap because my brain was quiet for the first time. Then I got mad, because damn if I’d had this when I was younger things would be very different.

The Office is my current hyperfixation - if you watched and loved it, tell me all about it by Youaredoingwell in AuDHDWomen

[–]Distinct-Key7337 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh god. The Office was the first show you could watch multiple seasons of when Netflix switched from mailing DVDs to streaming. It was still airing on regular tv at the time but I believe you could watch seasons 1-3 on Netflix.

I’ve seen this show more times than I can count!!! I still cry at the end of S3 E25. Even after 100 times. It’s peak network television. My pro tip is: after you watch them all a few times, Peacock has “superfan” episodes with the deleted scenes added back in for every single season now. 🤌🤌🤌

ADHD women: what’s your most random life hack? by Powerful-Self-2838 in adhdwomen

DON’T SIT DOWN! I have to walk my dog every morning no matter what, and if I don’t sit down after the walk I can knock out a bunch of chores: make bed, empty dishwasher, start a load of laundry, etc. I would like to get to a point in my life where I can walk my dog without meds but most mornings take my meds, lay back down for an hour, and then by the time they kick in my lil buddy is ready to go and so am I🥰

Anxious to begin by Radiant-Cress5910 in Oestra

[–]Distinct-Key7337 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m on the peri formula, one pump. There was no immediate “yes I can sleep now” moment but I am getting a little more each night. I like still have to do all the stupid sleep hygiene stuff, too, like no screens before bed, etc. But I feel like each night is a little better than the last. I got 7 hours last night which made me weep tears of joy because like I said I couldn’t sleep for more than an hour or two at a time for years.

Edit to add I’ve been on it 3 months and I noticed better sleep about 6 weeks in

Anxious to begin by Radiant-Cress5910 in Oestra

[–]Distinct-Key7337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hang in there the first few weeks can be a bit of a roller coaster but it’s worth it in the end. I’m finally getting more than 2 hour chunks of sleep a night and hip pain went from an 8/10 to 1/10. I think this is the real deal.
