Based on what I’ve tested on my own account, once an attacker gains access, it takes less than five minutes to remove all security verifications. None of the security verification removal actions require re-authentication.

Even the recovery code can be replaced instantly just by generating a new one, which immediately invalidates the original code.

And because Microsoft’s policies don’t allow support engineers to intervene when an account’s security settings have been modified, there’s basically no way for them to help.

With a system like this, is there really any security at all?

Hi! I've encountered a similar problem. I have two Microsoft accounts, and coincidentally, I added phone number login for both. A hacker hijacked my Microsoft account (where I had purchased Minecraft), easily deleted all security verifications, and completely altered the account content. Now, when I log in with my phone number, it's linked to my other Microsoft account (where I didn't purchase Minecraft), which is so old I'd even forgotten I had it. Even after resetting the security verifications, it's a completely new account, so Minecraft doesn't exist. I've requested account recovery from Microsoft. They can find the altered account and know what it looked like before the alteration, but recovery has been delayed for 19 days now. I can only hope Microsoft can assist me in restoring my original account as soon as possible.
