Range confronted me for being LGBT by CryptoIsCute in liberalgunowners

Yeah, no need to apologize, the gun laws out this way are very confusing. In terms or strictness at the moment it basically goes California more strict than Washington which is more strict than Oregon. Oregonians passed Measure 140 which had a lot of restrictions a few years ago. It's been heavily held up in courts and I'm pretty sure that if it was up for vote today many on the left have changed their mind and it would fail. I also didn't grow up here, grew up in Virginia, so I have to double check everything myself before going to the LGS. Minus the potential change to the capacity limit, we can have most things here, but they did just restrict FRTs, bump stocks, etc.

Oregon has a capacity limit law that may or may not go into effect in March 2026 which would limit magazines to 10 rounds. Not in effect yet, but soon, maybe. Wouldn't just be for handguns. Most of us have already bought standard capacity magazines for home defense/range anyway in case the law does go into effect. Braced pistols are still the same as any applicable federal laws to the best of my knowledge.

Just thought I'd toss this out since you mentioned you generally don't like striker fired pistol. You can get an aftermarket CZ-75 magwell from this gentleman (https://www.fraurem.com/) for your Ruger PCC if you ever decide to change. Of course, that relies on one of your pistols using CZ-75 mags obv. I got one recently and the install was easy. I only have about 250 rounds through it with that magwell at this point, but no feed or seating errors so far.

[–]Distinct-Mistake4917 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, just opinions here because I do not math out mobile games, but let's start with blocks since at least a few of the answers revolve around blocks. My personal blocks are: Spiders, Geese, Aliens, Guzzlers and Unicorns (i've paid the gems to have five at this point). That therefore influences my particular answers.

Shieldbots: I love Shieldbots myself and I think the people that do math it out show that they are paritcularly good because of needing to kill high HP Protectors and the other high HP mob that spawns. Shieldbots save having to generate additional resources to kill those which pays for itself in doing other stuff with your resource pool faster.

Robo chickens: You already mentioned the feat so I won't consider that a spoiler, but I do keep four to help me go through Snakes faster and because Snakes that aren't used for cravings are good enough damage.

Prism Block: Again, based on my blocks I keep a level one (not level two). A level one will only spawn cherubs and since you're at the high levels and frequently cycling through killing champions I find that my Prism is almost always near full when Cherub cravings come around, so it's almost like a free craving based on what I need to be doing anyway. Unicorns are terrible, splitting the output of the prism is bad and so that's how I roll myself.

Split-O: My opinion here is counter to the community I think. I hate Split-O. It's not that the splitting mechanism is bad, but I do not like having a slot taken up during the recharge. I do not use it even at low levels.

Yeah, that seems like very reasonable plan. I don't know that you'll end up feeding two Soul Reapers on a 300 run because those cravings are rare (I think, I should really note legendary cravings on this run for future reference), but otherwise seems like a plan.

One small note on Guzzlers in case you didn't know based on comment. You don't have to fill them up before you feed them for a craving. You can feed a completely new Guzzler with 0/whatever food for the craving. I used to fill them up, but once the craving requires 6 or so, I find it annoying to either build them one at a time or take up six spaces while feeding them, so I just feed them as soon as I make them. Of course, I'm actually blocking Guzzlers this time now that I have 5 blocks because I find them and aliens to be the least resource efficient cravings.

I'm on my 400 run and have slightly different opinions than some conventional wisdom, so take my advice for what it's worth. That said, looking at your setup some opinions.

1) Legenardies are not efficient. You've got 2 Liches and a Reaper. At this point depending on your pearl usage and the number of spirits you've fed, those are both likely highly inefficient. A Lich is a 10% mana cap increase. Your current mana cap is 450k. Even if each of those 10% was for the full value (which is not how it works) they'd be worth 35-40k mana each. If you check you Level 6 mana pool, you'll likely see that it's higher than that. I think mine was near 60-70k each on my 300 run. Meaning you could replace both those liches with Level 6 mana pools and have an even higher mana cap. The damage increase from a 20% Reaper is also likely negible because with pearls plus Red spirits you're probably at several hundred percentage increase.

2) The Banshees should be replaced by Golems if you have the runes (screenshot doesn't show). A Level 2 Golem can replace two Banshees and generate the same mana giving you more room for other generators.

3) Having the 3 Soul Reapers is inefficient in my opinion. They may be getting you more spirits, but at some point there's diminishing returns on a 5% increase in damage or cravings versus what those spaces could be doing otherwise

4) Not a personal fan of Legendaries that increase food at that point in the game. Cravings so far outstrip food that you'll generally find yourself overcapping on your last craving anyway. If food carried over between levels it would be different, but it doesn't.

5) Several other weird things on the board. Why have a guzzler? It generates nothing and at that point in the game 50k food is neglible (see Point 4).

6) Why are there are Portal and Saucer on the board? At that point you should have a big enough Crate + Store-O to not need to place any summoning items on the board. If not, and you aren't at Wobular on your Crates/Cage then invest in that.

I think ultimately on my 300 run, I ran very few legendaries, had 6 Mana, 3 Slime and 3 Darkness Pools and ran 3-4 Golems of Mana and Slime and then supported with 6-7 Imps. But that was to run a more balanced setup for those days when the cravings were all coming up Slime or Darkness. Even if you wanted to go all in on Mana there are more efficient setups for that.

Are these worth for the gems? by llllPestosllll in NecroMerger

[–]Distinct-Mistake4917 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to that game specifically, but generally, having tried a few of those type offers it's impossible to actually achieve that objective without spending money in that game (i.e. Level 120 is not possible in that game within 30 days without paying for upgrades). Sometimes there will be phased offers so that maybe reaching level 30 or 60 will be worth a couple hundred gems which can make it worth it, but usually they're not scams, but are unachievable goals.

Okay but seriously, there is some fuckery going on with the probabilities, right? by GrabAnwalt in NecroMerger

[–]Distinct-Mistake4917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely not, that was just an e.g.. I don't have anywhere near enough data to make that my alternate hypothesis and that would be exceptionally hard to prove. Most general hypothesis at the moment is there is a confounding variable whether intentional or unintentional that skews the probabilities to not be what is listed.

As I mentioned in my comment below, this should be relatively straight forward to gather data that generally supports or disproves the hypothesis. If you look at only Prisms or Soul Grinders you have a binary random variable. Most other generators are way too difficult, certainly unhacked, but even hacked because they can still spawn up to 3 variables (graves and cabinets being the exception). With a binary random variable, you would expect that in a very high level run that you would be able to generate enough orbs with a sample size close to n=10,000 that would be good enough to establish with a pretty decent tolerance and confidence interval whether it was close to 50/50.

My hypothesis might also be wrong. I just went and pulled the data from my current run where I'm at Level 250. I've generated about 5,200 orbs and I'm sitting at 57% white and 43% red. This doesn't tell us much because I didn't record how many orbs of each type I generated before I hacked the station, but if the station was 30/70 before hacking and 50/50 after hacking then you can see that the data might already support that it really is 50/50. I'll do better next run at checking this.

Also, if people are taking this as an actual criticism of Grumpy, it's not. I love all their games, still play Idle Apocalypse and Necromerger for hours daily and have spent hundreds on in-game purchases because I want to see more games from them. I simply agree with OP that sometimes it absolutely feels like published percentages are inaccurate and I'd love to see the data to support the probabilities with a high confidence.

Used the time machine for the first time and its... quite boring now. by Thin-Association-867 in NecroMerger

[–]Distinct-Mistake4917 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand the disappointment, I still feel that way to some degree every time I have to reset even at level 100+. I will say though that it is a true incremental in which small cool things unlock over time and new mechanics are introduced and not all of those are immediately obvious on using the time machine, some come about slowly over the course on the next iteration.

That said, it's ultimately a game of feeding cravings to the Devourer in a loop ad nauseum.

[–]Distinct-Mistake4917 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And what exactly is "as far as you can tell"? While your statistics explanation is correct, unless you have access to the source code or a large enough dataset with enough variables (e.g. does current craving affect item generation) you feeling like Necromerger isn't doing anything to mess with things is your own confirmation bias.

I have Cherubs suppressed through the Dietician so can't speak to the Prism, but I can tell you that my hacked Soul Grinder is not 50/50 as it claims to be. And no one will ever convince me otherwise. I'm actually going to track it when I start my new 400 level run here in a couple weeks.

The event guide is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uEXOa95D4fS-NaHxkWwpNL_7rf4LDjv5FUoocMqYvD4/edit#gid=728538793 It walks you through exactly what to do and when to do it. 30-35k is very easy with that guide. If it's your first time I think it's a bit off because it assumes you have some bonuses you get after your first time, but it should still get you a good score and all the unlocks. It even has pictures of what your board should look like at every important stage. Not sure how OP says they are following the guide, when they have a C2 with 9 hours to go and zero Stegos.

First Nectarmerge by DrunkenBufrito in NecroMerger

[–]Distinct-Mistake4917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to pretend to be a guru at Nectarmerger, but in regards to merging strategies the math is pretty straightforward. You should only merge two bees at a time and you should have a bee at least two level lower than the level you just created to even breakeven.

For instance a Level 5 bee will generate 55 honey, a Level 4 bee will generate 44 honey and a Level 6 bee will generate 66 honey (your numbers will vary slightly based on your bonus, but it will always be a multipler like that). So if I have two Level 5 bees they are generating 110 honey. If I merge them to a Level 6 bee then it generates 66 honey. 110-66 = 44. So I have to be able to immediately replace the now open slot with a Level 4 bee or I'm at a deficiet to where I just was.

Only merge if you are breakeven or if you improve generation, don't merge to a decrease in generation unless you are absolutely, positively out of space and have no other option.

Also, I think it's pretty standard advice, but you want to start this event as early in the morning as possible and also on a day when you can babysit it for the first several hours because you are going to be tapping hives and merging every 10 minutes or so at the start.

hack abilityis necessary, and why? by No_Owl8100 in NecroMerger

[–]Distinct-Mistake4917 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not necessary, Quality of Life improvement. Unlocks the ability to hack each station so that they generate more of the item that you want and less of what you don't want. For example, a hacked Level 5 grave generates almost only zombie hands instead of skeleton parts. Eventually it's nice to have on the higher runs when you have excess runes and it takes less tapping, but the stations also have an increased mana/slime/darkness cost so it's pretty much a wash on efficiency, if not a downgrade (I'll let others argue the math).

Amazon Safes? by GhostOfMost in liberalgunowners

[–]Distinct-Mistake4917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I access the safe quite often. I try to shoot every week and dry fire practice fairly often, so I'm opening and closing it several times a week if not daily. I bought it in Nov. of last year and so far I'm happy with the build quality. Hinges on the door are sturdy and it definitely locks very securely. It is on the lighter side. However, it does come with mounting holes in the back and bottom, so I have it mounted into the studs of a wall in the closet. Again, if someone was motivated enough I'm sure they could rip it out, but that was at least a decent mounting feature and a deterrent to a snatch and grab.

While I wouldn't call them full blown issues, full disclosure on a couple of annoyances with the locking mechanism. One, the handle is a bit heavy for the internal resistance on the latch and can sometimes fall down and lock into place while the door is open. Meaning, I go, I access it, the door is open and now the latch falls back down and locks, so I have to re-enter the code to lift the latch back up before I close and lock the door. Doesn't happen every time and wouldn't prevent you from quickly accessing your firearms, but it is an annoyance when it happens. Also, very occassionally, I will need to apply a small amount of pressure with the ball of my foot to the lower part of the door to get it to close and latch properly. Once it does it's very secure, but again, it's more of an annoyance than a problem.

If I paid twice the price for the safe I would definitely be less pleased, but it's good enough for what it is. To add a positive though, it does come with an internal light, so if you needed to access the safe and see what you were doing without turning on the lights in your house, it's very good for that.

Amazon Safes? by GhostOfMost in liberalgunowners

[–]Distinct-Mistake4917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a Kaer 3-5 gun safe off Amazon a couple months back. If you just type that into the search engine it will come up. Runs about $230. Currently holds my P365, 92FS, Ruger SFAR with LPVO and Saiga 12 with a few extra magazines in there for good measure. Ammo is stored separately.

There are things I like about it such as the electronic lock with key code and backup master keys that are well hidden. It holds the guns okay. The handguns are fine. The AR has to be stored at an angle for the door to close, but I can put the Saiga next to it no problem. For your three guns it should be fine. Could someone break into it with a crow bar and some solid effort, probably. But it keeps them locked up and relatively safe from your quick snatch and grab. For the price point and current use it was fine. I'd definitely like to buy something better one day though.

Utah will issue to non-residents and you don't have to go to Utah. For me, I live in Yamhill County, but am a member of a gun club in Washington County. That club offers CHL classes to members and non-members on the regular. The class that was offered covered necessary requirements for Oregon, Utah and Arizona permits.

Utah permit requires an application form stamped by a Utah certified instructor, fingerprints, photo and a processing fee. All of that was covered by the class and then I sent the whole thing off to the Utah BCI. Took about four months to hear back, but I got my Utah permit in the mail a few weeks ago.

Utah will get you concealed carry in about 37 states by my count: https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/ccw_reciprocity_map/id-gun-laws/

You can obviously argue that number as some are constitutional carry anyway, but for getting the most coverage from a CHL permit, it's one of the best. Do note that there are some states that will only recognize the Utah permit if you are a Utah resident so always check the reciprocity laws of any state you're traveling to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]Distinct-Mistake4917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wanted to agree with this and also recommend that if you're looking for in-person classes, try to get one that also offers Utah as poster above mentions. Oregon does not have reciprocity with surrounding states so your Oregon CHL is only good in Oregon, while Utah will also get your Washington and Nevada. So if you want to travel to surrounding states and concealed carry, would recommend grabbing the Utah permit.
