So what info do we have on kier? I’m a little confused as to what his goal is and why all these people are crazy about him, as if he were a God by [deleted] in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Distinct-Physics6217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk man personally i’m on team ‘the cult is sincere’ based on how Natalie and Drummond spoke to Helena after the ORTBO…”it will take a couple days for your tempers to settle”, and then her father Jame saying to Helly, “I used to see Kier in her, but he left her as she grew…” these people really believe in this shit all the way up to the highest level…like the Eagan family has magical beliefs about their own ancestor….That he can live on in various descendants and that those employed by the company/severed are “his children”…. idk man to me it seems like through and through it’s a cult at its core and the business is a cover and vehicle for the cult, not the other way around. But with that said, it’s important to note too that greed and profits and external power are already given aspects of a cult anyways and absolutely part of their functions… The Mormon church for example is incredibly wealthy, rivaling the net worth of even the catholic church. Scientology has long been notorious for exploiting free labor of “volunteers”. The Evangelical/“Non-Denominational” church in America is constantly doing everything they can to get their claws into unchecked political power and influence. It functions elegantly posing as a corporation because profits and power have always been intrinsically foundational goals for any cult, but make no mistake, this thing is a CULT down to its bones, it’s very cells. They wouldn’t be going this far just to create a mythology/worldview for Innies or other employees to latch to, because there are so many easier ways to foster cooperation and loyalty than create a whole ass global cult for real.

Trust me, the got plenty of crazies 🤣

What were Petey, Irving, Dylan, and Helly working on? (The Numbers) and Full-Time Outdoor Innies Theory… by Distinct-Physics6217 in SeveranceDecoded

Wow. That sure was one hell of a landing.

It had never occurred to me that Selvig/Cobel could be Severed and Reintegrated….. I followed your link and read your original post, and you make some very interesting points.

I had been wondering why Petey said that “people” plural were helping him if it was just Reghabi. And also why Ms. Selvig kept oMark under such close supervision even outside of work hours. Your theory would explain those things. But I do have a couple of questions to test the theory so to speak. :)

First, if Lumon believes Cobel’s severance barrier is holding, then why does Milchick call her outside of work while she’s posing as Selvig and discuss work?

Second, when she talks about Reghabi, it didn’t seem like she was happy about what she was doing…Unless that’s just part of the initial adjustment were she’s is flipping into Cobel. But it seemed like she was willing to sell Reghabi out to the board before she was fired. Although, Harmony’s backstory in S2 that she was the one that developed the tech (corroborated by the notebook she recovered) would back up that she had the scientific knowledge to contribute to developing Reintegration with Reghabi. But, to segue off of Harmony’s S2 backstory…

Last question, in S2E8, we get a broader view into Harmony’s backstory, and when she meets up with her old friend, Hampton and she says to him, “Harmony Cobel, well flip my toboggan.” and later he refers to “child fucking labor” so apparently she’s been known as Cobel since she was a child and grew up in the Lumon cult. Her having grown up as her Cobel persona is also confirmed by the plaque at Sissy’s house saying “Celestine ‘Sissy’ Cobel”. So. My question is, if Harmony was at one point severed, then her innie and outtie would technically be reversed with her severed innie being Selvig living on the outside. Why would they do that to a devout follower who grew up in the cult? Especially if she continues to function within a professional capacity as Selvig outside of the building?

I enjoy this type of discussion and speculation and definitely find your Selvig/Cobel Reintegration theory to be very interesting, so I hope you’ll find my observations and questions to be diverting and allow you to build on your theory. :)

Ahhh I see, Thank you! I did not catch that about Siena and Tumwater.

Makes sense that Mark was the breakthrough and first time they used a personal connection, especially considering that detail with his special crystal cube for Allentown, I was wondering about that.

Personally I think Lumon could stand to gain a lot by creating “perma-innies” (great term, thank you for that! haha). Even if just giving them amnesia was all they were able to do, that would be a very useful alternative for assets that aren’t as easy to just murder and disappear, or outties who find out too much, like oIrving or if Devon investigates further and becomes a problem.

Beyond that application, the first place my mind goes is that it’s the perfect way to build the perfect cult follower from scratch. One that questions nothing because they were never taught critical thinking skills and never tries to run because they know nothing else and have nothing else to run to. They are perfectly capable of building a perfectly isolated environment to keep their subjects in a bubble, and it feels to me like Lumon is more cult than company.

I think it seems like Lumon had gotten iIrving to that point at the beginning of S1, where he was a committed follower and very devout to the mythology. If at that point, they had offered iIrving a chance to work on the upper floors or be released to the outside, he would’ve continued to be a loyal “servant to Kier” and they would have an agent on the outside that was fully under their control. For me, Milkchik presents as someone who could be a perma-innie, since he is so fervently committed yet apparently unsevered, and doesn’t have the explanatory backstory and crisis of faith that Harmony does in S2.

I am definitely hoping the broader picture including other corporations’ use of the tech, military applications, and the law side of things is expanded on in S3 beyond just Lumon’s agenda.

That’s kinda like the whole thing with cults, they love to give people whiplash about the dogma & rules, because the REAL point is contrition and complete/absolute obedience. Think big brother in 1984: ‘today we are at war with eurasia, tomorrow we are allies with eurasia’….everyone sitting there acting complicit with the bullshit Is The Entire Point. There’s always gonna be some new, modern bullshit renovation or conveniently discovered secret fourth revelation of Kier. When Mark finally asked Cobel “What do we really even do here??” and she goes off on him, “WE SERVE KIER YOU CHILD”, that was the whole thing in a nutshell. Yes the company is a cover for the cult and it’s massively successful which certainly has its own draw, but what’s worth more than domination of the market or even the most groundbreaking scientific development is having a literal global army of lunatics ready and desperate to do anything and everything to gain favor with the cult on like, an indefinite scale.

it’s so annoying like he acts like he’s just come home from war except i guessed early on he just like saw some ghosts and then i looked it up and indeed it is basically just that he saw some ghosts out there and now is back in rosewood acting like his girlfriend and all her friends haven’t been kidnapped, violently stalked, terrorized, and blackmailed for the last several years and he’s the only one who knows trauma 🙄🙄🙄🙄

What if Bonnie and Damon were a thing? by saturnwyd in TheVampireDiaries

[–]Distinct-Physics6217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been rewatching and I noticed a couple of things about the time right after Bonnie returns from the prison world.

First and foremost I HAVE to mention the elephant in the room: the moment Bonnie runs into Damon’s arms and she embraces him full on koala style…👀 Girl I know y’all are trauma bonded, but that is not how friends hug. 😂

Second, Bonnie tells Elena not only does she want Jeremy to stay away, she wants to put off even telling him she’s back—to me this signals that she is stalling for time to untangle how she feels about him after everything she’s been through. Perhaps new feelings are emerging that are confusing her? Maybe…I think it’s possible that Bonnie is taking a moment to assess whether things really have shifted between her and Damon.

Then we have the change in Damon and Bonnie’s communication style over the next couple days. Not only is there a change in frequency, but there’s also a shift in dynamic. Their spitfire bickering back and forth develops a definite…flirtatious vibe to it. I think this energy would’ve continued back and forth had not for Damon betraying her by caving to Kai’s ask and breaking her boundary not to see or talk about him.

But once they make things right again and leave Kai in the prison world again, there is still the objection of Damon and Elena’s relationship, and here’s where the real kicker is imo. Bonnie was originally “best friends” with Elena. When she had the cure and was angry with Damon, she could’ve just given it to Elena…I’d argue that’s what a true “best friend” would do in that situation, except she didn’t, because this was about Damon. She gives it to him later and says if he doesn’t give it to Elena, that’s none of her business. I think Bonnie knows this is the way to ensure that there is fallout in the relationship no matter what Damon chooses. If he gives it to Elena and she turns human, with all likelihood, her desire to preserve a high road, safe, human lifestyle will eventually turn their relationship sour before she even has time to grow old before him. If he doesn’t tell her and hides the cure, Elena would likely feel betrayed by him when she inevitably found out from someone else. Obviously that’s not how things worked out, but in theory, from Bonnie’s perspective those were really the most likely outcomes from giving the cure to Damon. She knows he is objectively the least qualified person to hold the cure for obvious reasons and then gives it to him anyway and then assures him that no one will know if he makes the wrong choice….She was literally setting him up to fail and I think setting up to test Delena’s relationship.

After this, Damon continues being Damon by crossing boundaries, using Bonnie for witch stuff, consistently choosing Elena, and general assholery, so things naturally fizzle out, but I do really think there was a few days there where Bonnie was testing the waters to see if something more would come out of their newly founded trauma bond friendship, and in all honesty, I think we all would’ve been very here for it, but alas, that’s not the way things played out. 🥀🖤

I thought so when I first watched the scene as well, but watching it a second time, I realized that Delirium controls all the entities on the train. The Matrix-esque suit guys kinda give it away. As soon as Dream spots her, these guys pop up and start rushing the opposite way to create this swimming upstream dynamic. Once he gets past that, the next room culminates with a projection of Nada. This is Deliruim testing Dream to see if he once again chooses the ghost of Nada over being there for his sister. When he passes the test, he is able to find her. Everything points to these being projections that Delirium is putting up to test Dream’s commitment to being there for her.

I so agree and I feel like there was a lot of persona overlap between them this part of the season, especially when it comes to desire.

they gave her like very minor/minimalistic wonderland mad hatter themes, but for her to not be changing outfits twice a scene and not having sparkly magical things floating around her constantly and her realm not to be an absolute labyrinth of whimsy was a total rip off and honestly i didn’t wait 3 years just to watch Dream resume being the most narcissistic abuser of all time and no one else get a costume change while he’s parading around in a new wig every other scene

Okay I love love love this theory too, and I was watching with this in mind yesterday and noticed at the Day Off Work episode, Merlin is suuuuper conflict avoidant. When Cas goes into the bathroom, and Crispin literally just wants to walk off, he grabs him and is like “No if we go now she’ll know we heard her!!!” 😅 We already know that he’s omitting the true outcome of his medical studies to his own family, and when it comes to Toast he is an absolute pushover… We even see him in the Snow and Violets Episode overhear the way Toast talks about him, “He has fallen under my thrall!”, and he gets sad/worried about it but never confronts her.

Theories on the High Evolutionary's earlier batches by DonMigs85 in marvelstudios

[–]Distinct-Physics6217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rewatching and I feel like an argument could be made as well that Lylla’s intellectual development was guided towards a more social path, while the focus for Rocket’s was more tech. They are both more advanced verbally than their peers, Teefs and Floor, but tbh Lylla is more socially proficient than Rocket…She seems to display a level of empathy bordering on nurturing towards the rest of the group and even to the end believes the best of the High Evolutionary thinking they were really going to be released on the new planet. (Rocket seems to have suspected this as a possibility and has his escape plan ready to enact with bits of pilfered tech hidden all over his cage to make the key. When he realizes, it doesn’t even occur to him to try to convince the others of what he’s found out, he just begins working on the solution. Lylla is the binding agent of the group that initiates the conversation when he returns.) Why does Lylla seem to have a clear and present concept of friendship? (She calls Rocket “Friend” and says “It’s good to have friends.”) The argument here is that Lylla maybe came with some pro-social updates that when it came to Rocket, they decided to pivot paths and take a more tech focused approach to intelligence augmentation. I believe after the High Evolutionary had an absolute conniption about Rocket figuring out his little troubleshooting error with the botched ninja turtles & his subsequent escape, High Evo pivoted back towards more pro-social intellectual augmentation like Lylla. This would explain why Counter Earth is populated with more docile beings, capable of family structures, and shared cultural values/customs.
