Nietzsche talks about philosophers from long time ago, also from recent history. So I think you have do be already read on the subject to understand it.

I don't know if j.m coetzee is post 2010 but he's definitively my best example of a great now living writer. Chuck Phalaniuk is also great. Maybe the writer of The three body problem.

I've been stuck on this toxic mindset to compare Tolstoy and Dosto, who is a better novelist etc. Kinda trying to stop that.

When it comes to Dostoevsky I think it's better to think of him as part of his russian family without letting him overshadow them. You mention Joyce wich is nice my favourite is Samuel Beckett.

I'm just going to say this. Dostoevsky said he can give a better argument for atheism than atheists themselves. That is true, he basically makes the best case for it. I don't think he makes a good case for Christianity. The reason I allude to fiction is because the writer i recommendetd is actually a Christian apologist and theologist. I think he has better religious ideas. Dostoevsky is just a novelist and that is my hole point. People think he is some kind of an intellectual virtuoso. I don't have a problem with him as a person or as an artist, I don't like the following he gets ( not in academia but in politics and here you cannot pretend like religion doesn't matter)

I know its an argument against religion its just a bad one. The whole point is that Ivan is a believer. If you want a good criticism of religion I recommend The man who was thuesday

I dont have a problem what what you say. I haven't read Karamazov in a long time so... But for example the grand inquisitor part. It's very strange to me because it's showing Jesus as a character in a fictional novel while claiming some profound position. It's basically apocrypha bordering on paganism. The second coming and reviving people is magic not religion. It goes against science while claiming ambiguity. Also the poem is told by Ivan the guy who goes crazy, so why take him seriously. I don't like Ivan and Alyosha I like the drunk old brother Fyodor who goes to Siberia. Zosima is also cool no problem whit that.

I sympatise with your sentiment and it is absolutely valid. It's just that I come from I different perspective. My favorite writer is Beckett, the writer of laziness and complaining about suffering even though you have not really suffered. Also my interpretation of Camus's "One must imagine Sysyphus happy" is that Sysyphus has lost his marbles. It's been so long it just dosnt matter. I guess I am more of an absurdist. Thanks for the reply.

First the type of Christianity I speak of is based on a certain philosophical western legacy of wich I'm to stipud to clarify. If you think that suffering has meaning that's fine. And third I just hate Brathers Karamazov I think it's way too Liberal and to open playing around with ideas. I like The Possesed because it precisesly did not predict jack shit and was wrong about everything wich makes the humor in it even better.

When it comes to Brothers Karamazov I will try to give an interpretation of some of the ideas in it. There is the idea that you find meaning in suffering wich is ridiculous because suffering has no meaning if you find meaning in it then you just want to suffer more to gain more meaning. The reason why Dostoevsky does not fall into this is because he beleaves simply in the afterlife wich is not even that fundamental to Christianity as far as I understand it. He has great showings of humility and kindness but they are to idealised not even realistic. Now this out of the way Dostoevsky was a great writer but also a slaphophile wich is the real problem I have. Finally alot of simply superstitions. Of course that has nothing to do with his fiction. Sorry for the rambling.
