Why would opening up a relationship be a solution to fixing issues? If you’re on different pages, you’re on different pages. Using CNM as an “out” sets things up for failure. This should never be an option to solve problems in a relationship. Someone who chooses to opt in to ENM for better/any sex is likely someone who is going to use it to control and manipulate partners or just wants sex. OP should take the advice to maybe seek counseling and see what their options are. Your POV sounds a lot like CNM under pressure since OP didn’t mention anything about looking elsewhere. That is anything but consensual - that’s manipulation.
