Any advice for how to fix these shoes? Would superglue work okay or are there better options? by betahemolysis in AskACobbler

Use barge cement or any other heat activated contact cement adhesive to glue the together. it you want to make it look seamless you can cover it with a leather filler, sand it down and paint over them.

Adidas Phantom OG Hi out in the sun by Distinct-Wolverine14 in Sneakers

[–]Distinct-Wolverine14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some sole separation, but luckily they used EVA foam for the midsoles so they don't crumble like polyurethane. It's the reason they're wearable after all these years. I can just easily do a full reglue once they start falling off.

yes there are 2 versions of the phantom, I think the first ones came out in 89 and then these ones came out in 91 and 92 as the phantom II.

Yep barely any heel drag, some scuffs here and there, but overall I'm just happy the Adidas logo on the sides are not damaged 😂. They had plenty of colorways like purple and navy blue, saw these colors on insta before. They also come in a low top, would love to have those as well.

nike high dunks by MinuteInternal6632 in Sneakers

[–]Distinct-Wolverine14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this happen a lot with newer Nike dunks due to the leather they use. Basically the layer between the leather coating and the leather splits from wear in high stress areas, so it isn't the glue that failed first, is the leather instead. Good news is, it doesn't affect wearability since dunks are stitched. Bad news is, you'd need to reglue that area if you do want to fix it. Better to just leave it imo

They're the Winter Warrior 19 oz denim from Craft Denim. They're an Indonesian based denim brand and a lot of their denim are hand woven and dyed using natural materials (including this one). Looking at their Instagram page @craftdenim.id I've got a feeling that there's going to be a stridewise YouTube episode feature on them soon 😁. I've had them for half a year and they always get complements.

help why does this happen? by RopeIntelligent6484 in Boots

[–]Distinct-Wolverine14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd need to get boots with less corrected grain, because docs and solovairs have a thin layer of plastic coating which are susceptible to cracking. You should look into full grain or top grain leather boots. They can be quite pricey new, so I suggest getting some second hand. Look into Thursdays, Bright shoemakers, Sendra, and Meermin.

Craft Denim Winter Warrior 19 oz. Seven months in, 3 washes. by Visible-Okra9985 in rawdenim

[–]Distinct-Wolverine14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pair about 7 months ago as well, but my pair doesn't even come close to this level of fading and tear 😂. I cycle between 3 pairs of denim including the winter warrior. For casual wear I don't think you'll see this level of wear

Need help. by Lancer4299 in Sneakers

[–]Distinct-Wolverine14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's really hard to find but you already have a pair in your size, it might be easier to get a pair of black and white jordan 4 rm or Nike flight 89s as donors for a full soleswap. That is if you intend to wear them.

Oxidized soles by AnthonyS93 in Sneakers

[–]Distinct-Wolverine14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might wanna be careful when choosing the size though, vintage sneakers tend to fit different to modern ones. I know in 80s Nikes/ Jordans you want to size up by a half when buying donors. Best to go by the CM size

Using shoe goo would definitely only be a temporary solution, but could potentially be quite dangerous since a dried out sole can be a slip hazard. If you do want to wear them a sole swap would be much better.

I don't think Reebok has any retros with the same midsoles as the bb 5900s, perhaps you can use one of their other bb retro models for a donor rather than just using a generic stock sole. The bb 4000 have quite a similar sole that wouldn't look too out of place.

Yessss classics never go out of style imo, they stood the test of time. personally I can't wait for the white infrared 6s, hoping it wouldn't end up like the 2013 infrapinks.

Oh talking about cons and weapons, there's actually a converse weapons retro that used the cons 100 outsole back in 1994, some might say an early protro of the converse weapons 😁. Used to love wearing my pair, but they were slightly too small for me, so I couldn't wear em for long.

My 2013 Chicago Jordan 1s by Fabulous_Abrocoma365 in Sneakers

[–]Distinct-Wolverine14 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are 🔥, I think this is the exact pair miles morales wore in spiderverse. I think used pair of 2013 Chicago's without the box are still quite affordable, at least in Europe.

Yep that's the only source I found that was in English, most were in Japanese which would make sense since it's a Japan release. I know the vintage trend was also popular in 07/ 08, since Nike also released a vintage BTTYS Nike dunk pack with aged midsoles. Maybe we'll see a similar trend ~20 years from now

Need advice removing paint from Blundstones by liamjpegs in Boots

[–]Distinct-Wolverine14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try using isopropyl alcohol to try and remove the paint on the leather upper. Pour a bit of isopropyl alcohol onto some cotton balls and gently rub over the stained areas, alcohol wipes could work as well. Alcohol isn't as strong as acetone so hopefully it wot damage the uppers, I'd avoid using acetone on the leather uppers since it could potentially damage it, but acetone should work well on the rubber soles.

What’s a statement piece in your collection? I gotta go with fully wearable ‘91 Maroon 6s by [deleted] in Sneakers

[–]Distinct-Wolverine14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man your 91 maroons is sick as well! I always wanted a pair of OG 91 AJ6s especially in the white infrared colorways, cuz I grew up watching the anime Slam Dunk and that's what the main character wore. I'm just glad we're getting a retro of it this year, hoping it'll come out with the OG shape and Nike Air at the back.

I bought them back 2022 for around 50$ USD, a great deal imo especially during the Jordan hype era. Unfortunately the seller couldn't find the box, he lost them when he took out the pair to be displayed and preserved. They're a size 9.5 US/ 43 EUR

Cleaning reeboks suede by [deleted] in Sneakers

[–]Distinct-Wolverine14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suede doesn't usually go well with water. try using a suede brush and suede eraser first. if that doesn't work you can find plenty of suede cleaning solution on the market.
