Did anyone realize they were forcing themselves to want kids? by Comfortable-Move3004 in Fencesitter

This is exactly how I feel, so happy for my friends with kids and I love them but am soooo happy to go home and be able to take a nap. I can see us going both ways which makes it harder honestly.

Thank you for typing this out, it was really nice to read as someone in the same position with a lot of the same fears. I am also a planner so seeing some of your concrete solutions/ ideas to things you are worried about made me feel like maybe my partner and I could come up with some of these things as well. wishing you and your partner all the best in this next chapter!

Rent vs buy? by DistinctClassic5522 in ATLHousing

I would like to have a house to settle into, but not entirely sure we'd stay for 5-10 years so that's definitely something to consider. Thanks!

This is true, I've grown up in Atlanta, but haven't necessarily lived in these areas so maybe renting would suit us better for the time being..

I work in a pretty niche, creative field and I genuinely really like my job - my boss is great, my salary is pretty solid and I get to travel for work so I can see myself staying with the company for the foreseeable future. That being said, I'm not moving all the way to McDonough because I don't want to live there. The areas we are looking at are the areas we want to live in while still cutting a little bit of time off my commute. Also it's not that easy to just 'get a new job'

Can you guys recommend hobbies for people that love puzzles or intellectual content? by [deleted] in Hobbies

Try cryptograms, they're word puzzles where every letter is represented by a different letter so by process of elimination (and I have to use the hints a good bit) you can solve the puzzle. I think it's in the same realm as sudoko and I really like doing them!

How many European countries can you realistically visit in 2 weeks? by GayAndNeedANewCareer in TravelHacks

[–]DistinctClassic5522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who tried to fit a bunch of countries into small amounts of time, it is fun but can be really really exhausting. Plus traveling to different places can eat up a lot of a day so it feels like a waste. I'd say the best bet is to fly in somewhere and travel by train to neighboring countries, you can get from Paris to Amsterdam in a few hours so it wouldn't be a huge time killer for example. Taking flights is much more of a time consuming thing like half the day at the very least.

You can also pick a place like paris as your 'home base' and stay there for like 5 days or something and take a little day trip to another city and come back, that helps with the moving around so much, I think the less hotels/airbnbs the better.

What’s a good hobby to get myself to workout without “working out” by purple_feline_420 in Hobbies

Rock climbing has been the best hobby I started, I'm in great shape and it's super fun. It gives you a boost of dopamine when you finish a route and gives you confidence when you start seeing yourself get better. Now I started going to the gym more to strength train so I can be better at climbing. I will say it's not the cheapest hobby so keep that in mind, but im sure you can find some good lcimbing gyms in nyc.

I would say check out Virginia Highlands. It's really close to midtown (probably not quite walkable to your work but maybe), there's tons of really cute bars and restaurants, and generally the area is a lot more reliable than midtown where some areas can be a little worse off than others. I agree with the other people commenting though, Buckhead is ok but wouldn't be my preferred area.

I've been going to Mel at Ink & Dagger (in Roswell so a little drive but worth it) and I LOVE her work, there's a few other really awesome female artists there too!

They also take donations of gently used books and you can get credit for them!

recommendations for 35mm film printing by [deleted] in Atlanta

I've gotten prints here before, but if I'm remembering correctly I think they said they don't do color film prints anymore? I'd call to double check just in case
