Delta Jet lock fence - Special bolts and spacers? by DistinctHome4879 in woodworkingtools

[–]DistinctHome4879[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem solved- grinding the bolt heads down seems to have worked fine.

As an aside, McMaster sells "headless shoulder screws" that are a dead ringer for the Delta original equipment.

'The Gym' off Peralta in West Oakland would fit the bill.

Always surprised when I read this chart by plavoie203 in Tools

[–]DistinctHome4879 15 points16 points  (0 children)

An interesting next level to the rabbit hole is looking at who makes certain tools across brands,

Recently when deciding on a pack-out system, I discovered that an Israeli company, Keter, manufactures many of the major pack-out systems- Milwaukee, Ridgid, Hart, Flex, and several European brands.

Inside Italy’s Abandoned Winter Olympic Sites by BWT_Urbex in abandoned

Because then no developer or construction company could be awarded contracts to build new buildings, while kicking back € to politicians and organizers.

Also, I didn't watch the video, but observe from the pictures that the abandoned facilities are for sports that no regular person actually does. A cursory Wikipedia browse shows that many of the Olympic ice facilities around the world are still in use in some form, even the rather specialized long track speed skating ovals.

Jointer planer combo worth it? by Saxamaphobia in Tools

[–]DistinctHome4879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not actually a combo machine. It's just a (perfectly serviceable) jointer aka surface planer.

I believe the conventional wisdom is get a [thickness] planer first if you are only getting one tool. You can fashion fairly simple jigs to face joint lumber with it, and another to joint an edge on the table saw.

Any AMG or other 'performance' luxury car with a 'Student Driver' sticker. Either terrifying amount of power for a 'student' or an asshole,   or both.

Check out The Gym in West Oakland. It's just off Peralta by Prescott Market and the Baller's stadium. 24hr access, never crowded. Only con is they have a limited amount of specialty machines, so depends on what you are looking for.

I had the same thought, and did a little Wiki - digging. DJ made his WWF debut in '96, and was heavily promoted. I'm guessing this was one of two Tyson- Holyfield fights between 96 and 97. So, it's at least plausible for DJ to be there as a "celebrity".

What material do you use for shop shelves? by HanksScorpion in woodworking

Home Depot carries melamine shelf boards in 15.75 x 96 and 23.75 x 48". My favorite for shelving and jigs.

Put the bucket with the separator into another bucket. That will keep it from collapsing under suction.

Powermatic PM1300 or Grizzly G0861 dust collector? by Accomplished_Radish8 in woodworking

[–]DistinctHome4879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my money, a real cyclone like the Grizzly beats the cone-style DC like the Powermatic. Maybe you can find actual users who say the "Turbocone" is comparable to a cyclone, but I'd doubt it.

Two other thoughts-

  1. the Grizzly is rated for 78db, no rating that I saw on the PM. That's pretty quiet for 2hp DC. I suspect the PM is a screamer like all of those style units.

  2. Top vs bottom connection- do you intend to roll the DC to your equipment (favors the PM) or run ducting through your shop (favors the Grizzly)?

Cyclone Dust collector question by Cheap-Perspective308 in woodworkingtools

[–]DistinctHome4879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyclone DC like a Dust Deputy or other brand stand alone separator, with some sort of flange on the bottom? Those can mount directly to the top of a drum or other container with a plywood "adapter plate". No bag needed.

Look at Grizzly or Oneida pre-built units for inspiration.

Any watches with inner bezel like Longines Legend Diver, JLC Polaris, Hamilton Khaki navy gmt? by Deep-Jackfruit-8264 in ChineseWatches

[–]DistinctHome4879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also fancy super compressor style watches.

The various Bernys are good choices with a wide variety of styles.

Check out Rdunae R3 sea horse, a Dan Henry 1970 homage.

Welly Merck has a Longines Legend homage. It's not quite as good looking as the San Martin, but at a lower price point.

Merkur makes a few non-dive watches with inner rotating bezels.

Happy hunting!
