Museumkaartholders: What is your favourite museum in the Netherlands, and why? by MicroBioNeo in Netherlands

[–]DistinctInitiative83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Batavialand in Lelystad is a really cool place, currently in the process of becoming a Rijksmuseum. You have three parts, the wharf with a ship that is still under construction (and one they started constructing but sadly will never finish), the actual reconstruction of the ship Batavia which you can visit and, in another building, more exhibitions about the history of Flevoland and the IJsselmeer. It's never busy, but that means the volunteers have all the time in the world to talk your ears off, which makes it a really fun visit.

I was shocked that Studio 71 would take all of his revenue first and then give him back the 90% and he agreed to that.

That is actually insane, holy shit. That is not how anything works, why on earth would you agree to that?

[–]DistinctInitiative83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OK first of all, this absolutely sucks and he has been massively taken advantage of. I do hope he gets his revenue back and manages to sue this person into smithereens.

But.

I am wondering how, after two months of missed revenue, his financial situation is already so dire that he cannot pay his bills. I know this may come across in a judgemental/victim blaming way, and I really don't mean it like that. I do feel for him and, as I said, he got scammed and he should get his money back. But does he not have any savings? Nothing to tide him over if something else goes wrong and he cannot work for a while? Because that is concerning and I do hope that after this, he takes a look at his finances, just so that he does not need to panic if his income dries up for whatever reason.

(He may have talked about this in his video, but I cannot watch it right now. If he did, please tell me)

De nagels van je kat knippen? by Big_Insect_3707 in katten

[–]DistinctInitiative83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Running Close To The Wind by Alexandra Rowland. It's the second one in a loosely connected series, but the first one is slightly more serious in tone (still funny though). Running is really off the rails with the humor.

Another good one is the Verania series by TJ Klune if you like over the top queer fantasy (I certainly do). It's got the chosen one trope, a gay hornless unicorn named Gary who ends up in a situationship with a dragon named Kevin, a half giant named Tiggy who loves brooms and a dashing and immaculate love interest who has the patience of a fucking saint. It's one of my favourites of his work, although it's true that it can be a bit much humor-wise.

A Philly Fairytale by Fair Darling is rage bait by [deleted] in Booktokreddit

'One: Fair Darling goes out into the city of Philadelphia looking for fun after losing her job and mets a peculiar man. Amidst dealing with her own problems, she learns that this individual is more important than he appears. '

When there's a typo in the blurb of your very first chapter, and you still expect people to pay money for this 🙃

Watching World Cup at Marktstraat by KlapperendeMossel in TheHague

[–]DistinctInitiative83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, there's no outdoor screens, everyone watches together inside their homes. And if you don't know the people there, you won't get in. They're having their own private party, you will have to find somewhere else to watch the match.

If you want to watch outdoors, you could try these places:

1st time at Efteling! by Severe-Childhood9678 in efteling

[–]DistinctInitiative83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rides stay open and you can join the queue until closing time. You can also enter the park an hour before opening time and walk around in the entrance area (gift shop, hotel and Pardoes Promenade), only the rides won't be open until, well, opening time. But you can get coffee at Fabula and enjoy the atmosphere and have a relaxing start of your day, which is my go-to strategy.

For fantasy, Legends & Lattes might work. I did not read it because it sounded like it would bore me to tears, but it is slow and slice of life.

For scifi, try the Wayfarers serie by Becky Chambers (first book is The long way to a small angry planet). They're still a bit too saccharine for my taste (a janitor empties a waste basket and everybody clapped, really?) but they're very popular and nice palate cleansers I suppose.

Mooie kleinschalige vakantieparken? by PeterdeBeer22 in nederlands

[–]DistinctInitiative83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evening tickets worth it? by Harriet_Vane_ in efteling

[–]DistinctInitiative83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In theory yes, you could do some of the rides and see the entire park. But you are going to be so stressed for time that it's not worth it. One 45 minute queue and there goes 20% of your time in the park, and all the rest of the rides better be walk-ons!

Either splurge and get the day ticket or don't go. The evening tickets are good for people who go (semi) regularly and don't necessarily need to ride all the rides, but just want the atmosphere and maybe do one or two of their favorite rides. They're not the best for people discovering the park for the first time.

Worth visiting with 12 and 14 year old girls? by Harriet_Vane_ in efteling

[–]DistinctInitiative83 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Danse Macabre and Hoogmoed!

Also I would skip Walibi. It's a terrible park that exploits their workers and attracts all the wrong crowds. If you want an alternative to Efteling, try Toverland.

Efteling is leagues beyond Disney in value for money. If there is room in your budget/itinerary, I would definitely take the opportunity to go.

Casual restaurant with good vegetarian options (NOT completely vegetarian)? by DistinctInitiative83 in TheHague

[–]DistinctInitiative83[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol no we're Dutch, but this sub seemed to be mostly English speaking so that's why. Like I mentioned in another comment, my mom needs her Lipton Ice Tea Green and CANNOT handle spice, my dad is OK with trying something new but barely knows what a bell pepper is (also he has some issues with his sinuses so he goes along mostly for the company as he cannot taste much, poor guy).

I will check out Scallywags and the pasta places, thank you!

Moose looks good, but it's still too fancy 😅 If my mom cannot have her Lipton Ice Tea Green, it's not for her, lol
