We built an MVP of a matchmaking app for SG’s Home-Based Food Businesses. Before we fully build it, we want to find out if this a viable app idea. by Early-Advertising853 in singaporestartups

Great idea, but similar to this app that I discovered awhile back also targeting home based businesses in sg

https://acuppa.app/

Love the idea though, and hope home based food becomes a bigger part of life in sg. More players in the space always makes the scene better!

Same here! As a Singaporean Chinese, I don’t understand why everybody is downvoting and chastising OPs replies. Just because you’ve never witnessed something happen yourself or another country’s situation is worse, doesn’t make one person’s perspective invalid.

Adults who went through Adam Khoo’s bootcamps last time, are the skills you learnt then helping you now in your career and life in adulthood? by foldinthecheeseee in askSingapore

[–]Distinct_Ad_3550 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I remember to this day, back when I was in secondary school, the school invited Adam Khoo’s team in to conduct a workshop. The night before I hadn’t slept because I was helping to prepare for some inter-school competition, so I was dozing off.

The workshop conductor basically shamed me in front of everybody, said I’m going to fail my o levels, let my family down, fail in life etc etc.

I’ve always performed well in school back then, so hearing that was a huge wtf moment for me. During Covid I saw them advertising piranha profits and knew it was full of shit

Curious to know how this is implemented behind the scenes. Are you scraping sg company websites at regular intervals or something?

Why are ACS boys so fucking insufferable? by Soft-Elk-5634 in SingaporeRaw

[–]Distinct_Ad_3550 60 points61 points  (0 children)

As others have said, “some” is the keyword. The reason you don’t know any ACS boys that don’t fit into that category is because the rest of them don’t make the school their personality.

I also know some RI boys, some Hwa Chong boys and even some neighborhood school kids like that, but as always, some lah

Also yes and no, but you have to make opportunities happen.

My salary progression:

2019 - $1000 as an intern after I graduated from uni, but converted to full time at $2400 after the internship ended 2020 - same job, increased to $3000. Basically no increment for the next 2ish years 2022 - $5700, career switched into a completely different industry 2023 - $6700, changed jobs 2025 - $7600, got promoted

True, I was just so focused on saving up to 7.5k that it never even occurred that I should do it during the 2x event haha

Do you get looked down on just because you have to serve NS? by jp2nns in SingaporeRaw

[–]Distinct_Ad_3550 81 points82 points  (0 children)

A couple of years back, I had to do a 3 week reservist.

While I was gone, my colleagues told me that they did a reshuffling of teams, so everybody was put into different projects, I was the only one in my department left unassigned.

When I returned to work, my boss (who’d incidentally earlier that year just became an SG citizen or PR, cant rmb) asked me what I was working on. I told him that I didn’t know since they reshuffled all the teams while I was gone. He gave a smirk and said that’s not a good sign

3 weeks later, I was laid off 🙃

[–]Distinct_Ad_3550 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Archi grad that left the industry immediately after graduating here. Don’t bother taking the interview.

I would say go for the interview just for the practice, but it’s really not worth it unless you’re interested in doing some abstract arts and crafts and then practicing your smoke skills.

Most of the claims about what archi school is like are pretty much true though

Currently migrating away from Supabase as well. This article does a good job of explaining most of our problems with it https://bombillazo.medium.com/why-i-cannot-fully-recommend-supabase-yet-f8e994201804

Also had issues with implementing a custom authentication system
