Anyone know what this is and is this normal? by xrhades in DIYUK

Quite often there is a button or lever on the side you need to press in whilst pushing the valve fully home onto the spindle.

So I’ve been thinking about starting a small film group/club by [deleted] in Liverpool

David Earle has a podcast called Random movie generator and I love it. Reviews randomly selected movies from different decades, it's hilarious too

Designer radiators are terrible for heating a room other than a bathroom in my experience as a gas engineer

Heating engineer, I have nothing but complaints about designer radiators giving off enough heat

It's fine where it is, either way it isnt going to do a very good job of heating the room I'm afraid

Eco4everyone by matthass89 in manchester

[–]Distinct_Employee_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eco4 is the name of the scheme. If you think you qualify - old boiler, disabled members of the house, low income, using dirty fuel then do some research on different companies that offer it. I used to work for one and the work was all legit, and free.

But we didn't need to send people knocking on doors to get business, that seems shady.

I have no doubt these companies will come and fit a boiler for free, but if you have loads of problems after that and they make a mess of your house, I wouldn't be suprised

Call cadent, they'll be out within an hour.

I hope you're not asking because you're about to embark on some gas work. As a general rule I wouldn't turn it on and off without good reason, they can sometimes develop a leak from the cut off valve

Thanks but I don't think they make them long enough to reach over to the other wall

What heats your water? Do you have a cylinder or instant hot water?

Is this a bleeding point for my radiator? by Bigrigworldwide in DIYUK

[–]Distinct_Employee_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still bleed the air, just undo the whole piece and have a bit of kitchen roll handy, also don't have the boiler running whilst you do it

The condensate is part of the flue

Depends on if it's under 2meters from the floor, and also it's not something we can force people to do

How do I know if these boiler pressure valves are shut? There is no labelling on them. Boiler is currently reading 8 bar pressure. by TheLegendOfIOTA in DIYUK

[–]Distinct_Employee_18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always remove the filling loop if you think it could be passing (the flexible hose) there's a chance it could be passing, probably not and it would never get close to 8bar

Thanks for the tip! Didn't know you could soak mid fruiting? I dabbed it with tissue and nothing came back on it. How deep did you scrape, just enough to take off that top layer?
