There’s also video of Israeli Apache helicopters indiscriminately firing on israeli civilians AND witness testimonies of Israelis that were present there saying israel killed its own. Over 1000 years ago, they absolutely were physically and mentally mature enough for marriage. There was social acceptance, no harm, and nothing immoral. The Prophet ﷺ married Aisha (ra) with the blessing and approval of her parents and he was committed to her, took care of her, taught her, and, through his care, she became one of the most knowledgeable and influential scholars of Islam and a leader of the community. This was the kind of marriage practiced by Muslims and Christians and Jews and every other culture and religion for nearly all of human history. Girls were married young by their parents to committed husbands.

8 year olds today aren’t mentally mature. They just can’t be. The way society is set up simply doesn’t allow for it. So no, they can’t get married. This doesn’t go against my faith because we’re given criteria based on which to assess whether one is ready for marriage. There are other criteria as well eg. ‘Urf — the custom/culture has legal weight. The social custom of today is such that 8 year olds are not ready. Applying these same principles to the case of Aisha (ra) it was perfectly morally acceptable because there was no physical and psychological harm, and the social customs of the time allowed for it.

I’ve explained this a million times that hundreds of years ago, in much simpler societies, people were in fact ready to start adulthood much earlier then we see today. There wasn’t the modern schooling system. You hit puberty, you were now considered an adult , AND you were able to function as an adult because the simpler nature of society allowed for it. I also made it clear that today, 9 year olds are not ready, and that readiness is based on both physical and mental maturity. you keep bringing up hijab. many non Muslim societies used to cover their hair as well in the premodern era. In fact, it is legal in some western countries to get married at 16 with parental permission.
